Do you HAVE to have the confirmation letter to check in?

I rented some points and I'm not sure that I can get the letter to the renter before they leave on the trip. Do they need an original copy of the letter to check in, or will a fax copy work? Can they check in without it? The ressie is in their name.

I don't think they'll be required to have the original letter. A fax copy would be good for them to have and you should certainly at least give them the confirmation number. They will also need to have proper ID.

Having a picture ID like a drivers license is more important than having the copy of the reservation.

They will not need the confirmation letter, but having a copy (fax should be fine) certainly provides a level of comfort. As long as their name is on the reservation and they have photo ID, they should be fine. (They will need the photo ID even if they have the confirmation letter.)

All they need is to be on the reservation. Even a letter from you without being on the reservation will likely not be enough.

Thanks all. They ARE on the ressie and I will make sure they have at least a fax copy of the confirmation letter. They also have the confirmation number already.

Member Services told me that they just had to show up and give their name with a photo driver's licence. MS said that we weren't expected to give them the confirmation letter since it has personal information of the owner on it and the owner may not want the renter to have it. I found that conversation very interesting, but that's what they told me. Personally, I wouldn't feel good without a copy of the confirmation, even a scanned or faxed one would make me feel better.

There's really nothing personal on the confirmation letter, sounds like they were either trying to avoid sending more letters and/or deflect blame. But if they are on the confirmation, a photo ID will be enough.

No. All you need to have is a photo ID, as long as the reservation is in that name.

The confirmation letter is not required, although it helps if the reservation cannot be found.

Just a quick note here that I.D. for me (member since 1994) wasn't enough one time when checking in. For whatever reason the front desk did NOT have my reservation in their system and it was only when I produced my confirmation letter were they able to give me a room. I don't know what the issue or problem was, but the front desk person swore that I didn't have a reservation and I was forced to prove it by having my letter handy, so, just be aware that in at least one case a letter was needed.
