Do you have to book the partner hotel through Universal to get into the park early?

I can find better rates for the hotel I'd like to stay in on the hotel's own web site. If I book a room directly with the hotel, do I still get the perk of getting into the park early?...or do I have to book a package deal through Universal?

anyone know?
thanks

I believe it has to be a package if you stay offsite.

If you are talking about an on site hotel it makes no difference how you book it.
If you are staying off site it would have to be part of a package deal.

no.

if you book a room at an offsite partner hotel and not a package, it will not be valid for early entry to the park.

packages cost more and it gives various perks.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will book directly with the hotel and get the lower rate. We are thinking of going in late September so I think we will be ok with out the early entry.
