Do you have Stainless Steel cookware? Opinions?

Check out ConsumerReports.com for their ratings on cookware sets. You have to have a subscription though. DH and I use his brother's name and password to check things out all the time. If you don't know anyone who gets it, your local library should have the magazines. I think the last ratings they did for cookware was December 2005. Calphalon Simply Calphalon and the Emerilware Stainless didn't do well at all in one of their tests. After being on the stove (empty) for less than 30 minutes the bottoms fell off and molten metal poured out onto the stovetop. They have the video on their website. I know you're probably thinking that you'd never leave an empty pot on the stove for 30 minutes, but I'm sure someone, somewhere has left water to boil, somehow forgotten about it and the pot boiled dry.

Thanks for all the advice. I am leaning toward Emeril's 10 pc SS cookware set. It has really good ratings on epinions and looks to be the same kind of set I have, just a different material. I will look for cameo cleaner to keep them shiny and I may keep one of my non-sticks to make eggs. I don't cook eggs too often so I think that will be ok, I just don't want to use it day-to-day anymore.

Thanks again!

I have the Emerilware 10 pc. SS set from All-Clad - I love it!!! They clean up very easily and look sparkling all the time, except when DH cheats and puts them in the dishwasher - there's always a residue then. I don't even need to use Brillo - I just soak them in hot water if something is really stuck on (doesn't happen too often), then wash with a non-scratching scrubby kind of sponge. I got them when I grew tired of my Calphalon anodized pots and pans - I could scrub them for hours and anything that dripped or spilled down the outside would never come off! They always looked old and dirty, and they were new and clean and expensive! Never again - it's All-Clad from now on.

I use stainless steel and it's a bear to clean them so I just simmer the residue/burnt stuff in water on the stove, scrub off lightly with a spatula, and wash when cooled.

I like Le Creuset which is enameled cast iron much better, though.

I bought the emeril 10 piece set for my boyfriend's birthday is December and we love it! No complaints so far.

I also LOVE my emerilware!!! It cleans up wonderfully...only residue ever is with eggs and then just a light scrub with Bon Ami and it is perfect!!

When I think about how many inexpensive sets I have been thru in my 18 years of marriage.....jeesh...I wish I has splurged on a good set sooner!!
I will be sure my kids all start their households with a great set of pots...
