Do you have an eliptical trainer at home?

They're kinda wierd looking. You stand and pedal, but it's not a bike and it's not a treadmill. It's supposed to be easier on the knees. DH & I took the plunge and ordered one - it should arrive next week. The store we bought it from will deliver and set it up. Do you have one and do you like it?

I love using the eliptical trainer at the gym. Let me know how you like yours when it comes. I have considered buying one for at home but I want a good one.

We just purchased an elliptical trainer last month, and it's been in our home for about 3 weeks now. The brand is Octane, and we bought it from an exercise equipment store. It was pricey - $2300, but the less expensive ones had such rough striding action and seemed cheaply made and unstable. All 4 of us (husband, wife, 2 teenagers) use it between 3-5 times per week.

It IS easier on the knees and ankles. I've used a treadmill for walking and running before this at a local health club, and I feel far less stress on the joints with this while still getting a good workout.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it!

I have one at home but use the ones at the gym - they can not be beat (the ones at the gym that is). I have mine now down in the basement. They take up a lot of room. But it is my favorite form of cardio exercise beyond running. It is really great for knees and is a great workout. I set my at rnadom so that I get all differing degrees of difficulty.

I've lost 30 pounds on the Ellipse at my gym....went from a size 12 to a size 8. I've been on the Ellipse about 4-5 nights a week for a good 6 months. That, along with diet, has changed my body.

I blew out my ACL and MCL last february. This machine is gentle on the knees.

Good luck with it!

bought a Horizons E70 last week and I love it. It's interactive and the wheel is in the back as opposed to being in the front like most ellipticals. I find it easier on the knees than most ellipticals and I don't bounce around as much.

I have exercise ADD and I find I get a much better workout with 19-15min on the elliptical vs walking or doing an aerobics tape.

We got one last year and we really like it. Low-impact was an issue for us and it works well.

I just bought an elliptical trainer from Sears. I loved the one at the gym so much, I knew I just had to have it. The home ones don't compare to the gym ones (usually $1000-$2000 for home ones and $5K for the gym ones) but I still really like mine.

I find that it takes less time on my home one to get a good workout (about 30 mins). I usually spent 45 mins to 1 hr on the one at the gym but feel like the workout was very similar.

I started off at 20 mins and I am working my way up. I have a bad back and it really doesn't bother my back at all as opposed to a bike or even a treadmill.

I am hoping I can stick it out with this workout and lose a little weight before our trip to DLR this October.

Hillbeans,
Congrats on your achievement!!! You must be very proud!!! I hope I will be saying the same thing six months from now!

Oh, Man that is funny :rotfl: :guilty: Me Too! I love doing this because it is something I can stick with and get great results from. I forgot to say, remember to use your arms and not just have them moving with your legs - pump them too.

hillbeans! Woa, that's great. I probably need to loose that much too and it would be great if this and my weight work, Yoga, and diet will do it as fast as you did it.

Thanks everyone!! That ellipse machine at my gym is the best. I changed a lot of things to lose that weight...including going to the gym 5 nights a week, not eating after 7 pm, eating lower carb, etc. I just decided that i've had extra baby weight from my DS 3 and finally got disgusted with myself. I just wish I did it sooner, however you have to really want to change the bad habits in order to lose weight. For me, that meant exercising at 8 pm at night instead of eating chips on the couch at 8 pm.

Good luck to all of my fellow "ellipse"rs

I've had my elliptical trainer for 5 1/2 years. Last time I used it? Yesterday! Love that machine! I did it all throughout my pregnancy with dd and again now. I just go slower.

We got one last month for our family. DS needs it for his exercises for his scoliosis/kyphosis; DH needs it cuz, well, he needs it and as soon as I get the okay to go on it, I need it also.

It does take up a lot of room in the room it is in. The two guys who are allowed to use it have not used it like they should. I am not too happy. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_109.gif' border=0></a>
