in case you leave somewhere and someone honest finds it? just thinking i have nothing in my bag with my name or address on it. but then wondering if anyone marks each lens etc.

I never put my home address on anything. It advertises you are away from home. For luggage I put my business card with my cell phone number added.

For my camera bag, I have a luggage tag inside with just my cellphone number with a card that simply says "reward if found" and my cellphone number. Same with my laptop. I don't use a business card either either the camera bag or laptop bag because I don't want to advertise where I work.

Your post reminds me, I need to record all the serial numbers on my camera body and lenses. If they do get stolen, it could help get them back and certainly would make things easier with the insurance company.

I put address labels on things. I once lost my camera on vacation and it made it's way back to me!

I don't have to worry too much about the advertising being away from home issue as someone's always here even when we're away as is the pooch.

i have a label from one of those little label makers that has my name and cell number on it on most of my photo gear. it's real small print, so you'd have to really get a chance to look at my camera, but hopefully, if it gets found by someone honest i'll get it back.

i also have a card with name, number and reward if found in the card holder on my lowepro pack.

also, on all my compact flash cards i have my name and phone number written on the back. this is more for if i leave them in a kiosk than anything else--hasn't happened yet, call me paranoid!!

Disney's lost and found is full of cameras they can not return because they have no info.

I remember a story of one camera lost and the owners called and described the model. then described the pictures that were already on it. Like 8th birthday party and such. So dis sent it back.

My DH lost his cell phone last month at WDW. He didn't have any label on it. It took two days of phone calls while it made it's way to "Central Lost and Found" and then he had to describe the phone and give the phone number but it was waiting here at home when we got back.

The hand-me-down Treo that dh just gave me (decided he needed a Blackberry instead :confused3 ) has a label from this place on it: http://www.stuffbak.com/sb/

Basically you pay a fee for these stickers to put on your portable electronics. There is an 800 number, web address and owner id on each label so that someone who finds your stuff can get it back to you. The label also says "reward for return"--evidently the service will provide free labels to the person who returns your stuff (woohoo! ;) ) or you can specify cash reward amounts that you would pay.

I'm not sure I think this would make it any more likely that your lost camera equipment would find its way back home than just attaching a label with your name and phone number, but they claim a much higher return rate (based on what I of course have no idea :lmao: ). Might be worth looking into though. I suppose maybe the anonymity might make some people more likely to do it this way.

I use those free return labels that you sometimes get from a charity who wants your money... stick one on the bottom of the camera and write the phone number with a Sharpie as well.

I'm not worried about the address being on there - the area code would make it clear that I'm away from home, and I don't think a thief would really care if I was local or not.

I did lose my WDW lens cap at DL... I was idly playing with it during the 50th anniversary movie with Steve Martin, then left and realized the cap was gone! And when I went back in during the next showing that I could get in to, I couldn't find it, even with a flashlight (thanks to the cast member.) I left info with Lost & Found, we'll see, but I don't have a lot of hope... :( They did say that they had a ton of lens caps and I was welcome to take one that fit, but I still have the original cap, I wanted my WDW one! :guilty:

I have my business card in my camera case, and also one of those address labels you get free from charities on my camera.

Since my SD cards are so small, the first photo on each card is a photo of my business card, and then I protect the photo so I don't accidently erase it when I'm erasing the photos on the card. (And yes, I know it WILL be erased when I format the memory card, but when I format the card I just re-take the business card photo.)

Great ideas! Thanks for reminding me I need to do that.... I like the idea to RTPHokie about reward if found and no address, just a cell phone number.

Well that ought to deter theft at least. :rotfl2:

unless the thief is a diser...

then neon pink paint works better.

I actually did paint my old monopod neon green and pink,,,,

got the idea from another photography site...

the idea was when shooting in grassy areas if you have to drop the monopod for some reason it's easier to find and less likely to walk away..

I didn't want to take any chances, so I superglued my camera to my hand. I made sure to get one that was weather sealed so that I could still take showers. The downside is that typing is much tougher. It's also much harder to hold my cellphone while I drive.

Have you been hanging around with my youngest DD???? Her entire room is done in lime green and fushia. 2 walls are lime green with fushia circles and the other two are fushia with lime green circles. Makes for some interesting comments when people see it for the first time - and that is a 14 yr olds room. I can only imagine the comments and looks you got with your monopod. :thumbsup2

She is a great kid and like any other parent I am very proud of her... BUT I can totally understand what you are saying.

As her 41 yr old Mom - I love her and her friends and enjoying spending time with them - but I don't really wanna "hang out" with them either.
