Do you have a possession that you will never part with? Mine is a guitar that I bought when I was 15 years old. I worked non-stop to earn the money to buy it and I still have it today (I'm pushing 50). I've had it through all the bad times in my life. It is a comfort to me that I can't explain but I cannot live without it, even though day to day it is in the background of my life. It is the first thing on my "hurricane list", ahead of anything else I own, to keep safe. It is truly the only tangible thing I own that I need to know is safe. What is yours?

The baby blanket my mother made for me. I was never without it when I went to bed and it always protected me from all the scary things in my closet! It's now in my hope chest along with other items I hold dear. I also value my photos. If anything were to happen, that hope chest and my photos would be what I grabbed(after my family,of course!)

I have a Pebbles Flintstone doll I got for my 1st birthday. She is in horrible shape, but safe in my closet! Never let any of my kids near her :).

I have one picture of all my children together when they were little that hangs on my wall. Several years ago, we evacuated for a hurricane. It was the first thing I took to the car.

I love that picture and hold it dear to my heart. I can not imagine a day not looking at that picture and remembering a hundred little moments in my life I will cherish forever.

I have a Toodles doll that I got for my first Easter in 1956. I sent her to a doll hospital and had her restored about 10 years ago.

My VHS tape of Back to the Future. I was crazy about this movie when I saw it on opening weekend back in 1985 (I was 11 at the time), and I had the maddest crush on Michael J. Fox. :lovestruc

We had just gotten a VCR when it came out on video the following year, and I was waiting for my mom come home from the store because she said she was going to try to rent it. Back then you could really only rent the movies the first few months they were out because the videos were really expensive.

She finally came home and she and my dad told me they didn't rent the movie, because....they bought it for me. And then she took the tape out of her bag and handed it to me. They had bought one of the rental copies from the video store.

Of course, I have all three BTTF movies on blu-ray now, but I still have that old VHS tape. I still can't believe they bought it for me. :goodvibes

The letter my father wrote me (I'm my parents' first child) on the night I was born, and gave to me on my 16th birthday. I misplaced it for a few years, and was SO disappointed; when I found it again, I swore I'd never let it out of my sight :cloud9:. When my dad is gone, I know I'll treasure this letter more than anything in the world. :lovestruc

Mickey Mouse spoon from my childhood and a Pig cookie Jar that my G-ma found in a garbage can when she cleaned houses for a living. It sat on top of her refrigerator while I was growing up. It sits on top of the cabinet above my fridge now.:goodvibes:lovestruc

Photo's of my kids/parents/siblings aside.....
I have a birthday card my husband gave me for my 16th birthday 44 years ago. He added to it with drawings, putting in his amp and guitar (he played with a rock band when we met and many years after), my dog (long long gone), my street address, and other things. Much like hidden Mickey's..for days I looked at it and saw different things. Even now, I'm surprised at the things he added.
Just a few years ago he gave me a card that he also personalized, but which plays 'our song', I got you Babe by Sonny and Cher. When he's a away or out at a meeting, I've been known to pull both cards out and they give me good memories.

No. My husband does - it's a guitar as well, that he's had for over 20 years and has a lot of sentimental value for him. Like you OP, if there were a hurricane/fire/natural disaster that guitar will be evacuating the house with us.

My Mom's biscuit cutter and her handmade quilts. They are top on the list of material possessions to grab if we evacuate for a hurricane. :thumbsup2

I don't either~I had a house fire 10 yrs ago and realized there are mementos that can never be replaced, however my dogs were much more important. I was able to get duplicates of all of my photos from family members, however I can never replace family/pets.:guilty: There are no material possessions I couldn't live without.....

I have a few things. My grandmothers china cabinet (very rustic), my grandmother's dresser (which was used by both great-grandmothers), my grandfather's banjo, and a love letter written over 100 years ago from my Nana's father to her mother.

My Mickey ring. It is gold and was made by a man in our town. He was a member of a church where one of my students' father is the music minister. The ring was made for my student, but she never wore it. She and her mom decided to give it to me. It is a priceless, one of a kind item. I would be crushed if anything ever happened to it.

We have a five-foot tiki statue that lives in our living room. I'd be so disappointed if anything happened to it. I had it hand-carved for my husband.

I own a lot of handbags. It would be so hard to choose which one, but they are just things and replaceable. I think the ones I'd try to get first in an emergency are the ones given to me by people who thought I'd like them. A friend gave me her mother's prized bags, so those have the most meaning. If I had time (say an hurricane was 12 hours away) I'd grab the Gucci.

I have a lot of them and we are actually gathering them to put in a "safe" and easily grabbed spot.

One of a bear my mom gave me that I dragged around my whole childhood. It sits on a shelf above my jewlery box now and my husband actually brought it to me when i was in the hospital getting my appendix out in january... i felt like such an idiot when he did that but it was sweet and comforting.

I also treasure my photos but they are backed up in a ton of places, and I would try to grab my wedding album and definitely my jewlery. And my recipe box my grandma has been making me.

There are things I'd rather not have to give up, but I would in a heart beat if I needed to because they are just material objects. The memory of the object is in my head, not in the physical item and when I no longer can remember why the object is important, it won't matter if the object is in front of me or not.
