Do you get room discounts with an annual pass for real?

Hi! I just read on Universal that if you buy the preferred annual pass you can save up to 30% on hotel stays....IS THAT TRUE?? Is it automatic with a pass? Or does there have to be an AP promo out? Has anyone used this??? Please let me know! I am going twice this year, so AP is probably a good deal, but if I can save on my room too....BONUS!

It's true. Our rate went from $219 to $139 staying last week after I checked rates again after reading here about the APH code (see other thread) in early August. And when we checked in at RPR no one even asked to see our annual pass! We used the annual pass to get discount on 4 other tickets plus 10% off food and souvenirs so I definitely thought it was worth it.

There isn't always an AP discount. Check to see if there is a discount for your room before you get the pass. You can check by entering APH in the code box on the booking website.

We didn't have one in hand one trip and were instructed by HRH that if we didn't stop back & produce it we'd be charged rack rate. No big deal as we were upgrading a tix anyway but I wouldn't chance booking an AP rate & not being willing to back it up.

I'm saving almost $200 total on a 3 night stay, compared to the same room/hotel with the Stay More Pay Less promo.

But it's not automatic at all. There has to be a rate out to book, and you have to book it when it's out.

AWESOME update!! I got my preferred APH today. I called Universal and asked about HRH APH rates for 10/10-10/13......originally lowest I found was $255.60....drum roll......with APH, I got it for $189!!! That is $200 savings! Feels like Christmas! :rotfl::cool1::dance3::woohoo:

It seems like the website will give you the same discount provided you are staying more than a few days. We are going to stay a week. The online reservations discounted my room about 30 percent from the rack rate. I called to see if I could apply an annual passholder rate and, of course, they said no. So it seems like it is immaterial if I have an annual pass or not. I guess that makes sense since after about 4 days the AP costs less than the LOS passes.

Preferred cardholder here too. We stayed ONE night in August at PBR and the room's rate was $384 (summer season) and I paid $199. I thought that was pretty good, almost 50% off. Yes I was asked to produce one of our APs upon checkin. There was no problem getting this rate for only ONE night (which was a Saturday night). I find checking online very easy. Not all resorts are always available and weekends are higher.

I am a "newbie" also, and the rates I found were alomost identical since we are traveling 10/14-20. I am having trouble locating the previously mentioned thread that has the AP discount code. Can anyone direct me? Thanks bunches!

*being the discount hunter that I am, I had to keep searching while waiting for a reply ;) and, of course, I found it... Thought I would edit my post for others searching: Thread is "Just booked Royal Pacific for $139 APH rate". Code is APH. Hope this helps someone!*

Hi, I just booked PBR with APH code and is in the process of buying an annual pass. Does the annual pass has to be "preferred annual pass" or will "power pass" qualifiy as well? Thanks for the help.

Power pass does not get the 30% room discount. I looked this up on the Universal site...

Is this true about it not being allowed with a power pass? On the loews hotel website, it doesnt specify the kind of pass required when I check availability - In the rate results & description it just says -

Annual Passholder Special
Rate Description:

Special rates for Annual Passholders. Must present valid Annual Pass at check-in. Not combinable with other offers/discounts.

Has anyone used the power pass to get the discounts?

Can anybody tell me how much the AP is to buy that's the prefered AP the one that gets you discount on buying other tickets and room discount? We are going in September next yr and I was wondering if it's worth me buying it so I can get money of the room and any other tickets as I need to buy 1 adult and 3 kids!! How much does the AP get you off other universal park tickets? Thanks heaps :)

Here's the link with the different passes. The power pass does NOT give you discounts.

I have had a look at this, as I am considering doing same. The pass you need is $259 plus tax. (as a guide to compare a 14 day park to park ticket is currently $152.99 plus tax, plus a processing fee). So I have to work out, if I am going to make more than $115 dollars in savings by using its perks (room discounts/food discounts/merchadise discounts, etc)

It looks like the annual pass discount you can get on buying reguar tickets for friends/family is 10% on single day, and 15% on multi day

BUT, this is on full price tickets purchased at the gate I presume? Not on the already discounted tickets I could get online anyway, so it doesn't look like you are gaining much with this perk

eg - a park to park ticket, lasting 14 days, and unlimited entry for 14 days is currently $152.99. If I purchased the same on gate (not sure how much that would be) and then applied a 15% annual pass discount to it - I guess it would be about the same, or maybe even more?

But its hard to find out what the gate prices actually are to know for sure.

I don't think you can buy the 14 day ticket at the gate. That's a special right now only online.

What makes the AP the best is if you plan on making more than one trip in a year. :thumbsup2
