Do you ever ship to your hotel?

I'm thinking about ordering something online for our next trip and having it shipped to our hotel. The duty and shipping to Canada is outrageous, and the price is actually way cheaper to buy it in the States. Has anyone done this? Should I foresee any problems? I've already talked to the hotel and they are fine with receiving packages, but I'm looking at it more from a visa standpoint as I'm having something shipped to some place other than my home address.

I do it just about everytime we go somewhere. Never had a problem.

I did it each time I went to DisneyWorld! I even ordered some pretty pricey stuff once (almost 500$, I was a bit stressed out that time!). If your hotel is fine with it, you just have to make sure the Website you want to order from will ship to a non-credit card address.

I feel like a kid when I can order anything I want from Amazon.com at those great American prices!

I want to order from sephora. Although we have a couple in our city, the prices in the US are SO much better than Canada (I need to get 4 products and combined it will save me almost $75 before the exchange). Shipping is free to a US address but over $20 to a Canadian address. Because in Orlando the only Sephora is in the Florida Mall, we don't want to go that far just to go to Sephora. I hope we don't have any problems...I will try. This will be a first for me, so wish me luck!

I'm sure you'll be fine.

I can't think of a time in the past 10 years that I have not ordered something to be delivered to my hotel. It really saves on luggage overweight charges, provided you use it up while there.
Geez with all this trip planning talk, I can't wait for our next Disney event and it's too far away to really do anything about yet! :(

We have done it without any problems.

I always include my arrival date and reservation number in one of the address lines. (I would also include the reservation name if it was different)

Last time there was a small, $5 I think, charge from the Disney hotel to handle it. I do not know if that is now standard or whether it varies with the size of package or length they held it. (It was a huge box and it was probably held one to two weeks.)

I have done this a few times and I haven't had a problem with it from the credit card company's perspective.

You may want to make sure your package arrive a few days before you do in case something is delayed. We had a problem one year we were down for a week and the package was scheduled to arrive the day we get there. This package was supposed to go from Texas to Florida. Unfortunately there was a hurricane so the package was delayed. This package never got there before we left (remember, we were there for a week). Eventually I asked the hotel to send the package back to the sender, paid the sender shipping to send this package to Canada, and ended up paying duty on this thing! I think I had that package in my hands like a month later. From that point on, we make sure any package would schedule to arrive a week to 10 days before we arrive (we call ahead to make sure they are ok with it). It is just good to have the wiggle room if needed.

You may also want to specifically call the hotel to find out if there is a charge associated with holding a package. (Though the last time I was given the wrong info on the phone, I was told there was a $1 charge which ended up being $5) I think some Disney hotels charge a fee for the privilege of holding your package. They didn't charge anything when I stayed at Pop Century or at French Quarter. There was a fee at Coronado Springs (but it routed through their convention centre so it may have something to do with it).

I've only had a problem once and it was with Kiehl's. They would not ship to a US address with my canadian credit card. The weird thing is, I was able to have something shipped from them in march 2010 but when it came to November 2010 they had changed their policy. :confused3

update....

I just tried to place my order online (with Sephora). I got to the checkout and there was a place for Canadian Credit Cards, so I hit that button, and then my order increased by $40!!!! I hit the back button, and it took me back to the original check out screen, so I started to put in the shipping info and then the credit card info, which was only zip code/state compatible, so I wasn't able to put my accurate credit card info, therefore, the order was rejected.

Grrr....I'm gonna try to call Sephora online help tomorrow and see what happens, but I refuse to pay an additional $40 because I have a canadian credit card. If push comes to shove, I guess I could just see if maybe we have time to go to the mall...but its really not looking like we will :sad1:

My sister had the same problem with the store that she is trying to order from. Is this a new thing???

Try paying via paypal. I had the same problem on another site, but paypal worked fine.

My sister had the same kind of trouble with Macy's (pretty sure it was Macy's). She tried to buy something of a friend's registry and have it ship to California, but the online tool would not let her us a Canadian credit card. She phoned in and they did process her order. Good luck!

I do it almost every time. The first tiem I saved a ton of money on a high end stroller from Amazon.com. I was nervious because if I got to WDW with no stroller it would have been a long trip.

I have also ordered stuff from LLbean and saved on the duty on a couple of Winter coats, which was still alllot even though they ship to Canada for free.

Disney never charged me anything to handle the package...although I tipped the bell boy I think.

I called them, but was told that if I was paying with a canadian credit card, I could only ship it to a canadian address. Same with if I paid for my order with a credit card issued from an american bank...it could only be shipped to an american address. The girl that I spoke to was extremely nice, and said there was just no way around her system to help me out. I guess I will just have to try to get to the one down in Orlando.

I did end up ordering some scrubs for work though and had no problems with payment.

It must depend on the merchant and their billing policy. Never had an issue with LLBean and Amazon.
