do you ever see there being a disadvantage buying resale vs. disney itself?

uy from what I know is not choosen by disney. I am on the wait list and I choose the uys. Just like if I went to buy from the resale store , I choose a uy. disney does not assign a uy, for instance for beach club. as far as financing, both can be financed. initially you may before the contract is signed with disney add a few more points, but essentially your buying a set amount of points. For resale you can also buy a contract with banked points, which thru disney you can not.

However, the 3 purchases I made so far they gave me the current UY pts and MS allows me to bank them even though it is passed banking time. For example I just added on and have June UY, I got the 07 UY points with no 07 maint fees and was allowed to bank them. 08 maint fees are prorated.
