we are only beginning of thinking to buy, but wanted your opinion of whether you ever feel cheated with some of the recent discounts that disney has offered...such as this past FTP the room at BC was about what the maintenace fee would have been for enough points to stay at BCV...

you look at it from a differnt perspective I am sure, such as you get a "discounted rate" without having to wait for the discounts...

never never never. I would rather have rations of bread and water than not have my DVC.

Those Disney room discounts are never guaranteed and will go away before you know it. People have to work hard to get those discounted rates at the resort they want for the time they want, and they usually have to call long-distance to do it.

Once you have stayed in DVC accommodations, you will not wish to stay in a regular Disney hotel room again. When I do stay at Caribbean Beach on the weekends before my DVC stay, I am always comparing the rooms and always glad I am moving on to DVC.

You will surely not hear many people on this board expressing any regrets or "buyers remorse" for purchasing DVC.

In fact, the only regret you'll probably see is that "I regret that we didn't buy sooner".

I agree first of all that comparing DVC to regular resort rooms is not really apples to apples, even if you stay in studios. But beyond that, I'm glad that I don't have to join in the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the Resorts Boards these past few months as those magical "discount codes" have disappeared!!

No....no regrets here. An excellent purchase that I will enjoy long after almost everything else I purchase these days will be long gone.

no - if I did I would sell it - kept in mind that alot of people wait for upto a year for the discounts to come out - knowing that WDW may not even do discounts -

with my DVC I am assured of staying where and when I want - no waiting and deciding because WDW is offering a discount here but not where I would like to stay.

I was one of the first to stay at CBR it was then $69 a night - see the price increase....you don't have to worth about that thing with DVC.

heck back in the 70's when the Polyn was new it was in the price range of the Holiday Inn - (it was cheaper than the Sheraton that we had stayed in the year before)....

No regrets here at all. Used to watch all the codes and room discount posts, but now never open them up to read. We do not have a clue about recent codes.

We haven't belonged very long, but so far no regrets at all. We are very glad we purchased. The prices of the resort rooms will increase & there is never a guaranty for "room codes", however, the point value at the DVC resorts will always remain the same. The dues will increase, but I highly doubt it will be in line with room rates.

DH & I recently stayed in a studio at BWV & I would stay in a DVC studio first before a resort room given the choice. There is really no comparison IMO.

We are hoping to enjoy DVC for another 40 years not only by ourselves but with our parents, children, grandchildren & who knows - maybe great-grandchildren one day!! Wow, that sure makes me feel old before my time.

We've only owned since May and haven't made any trips home yet, so it's probably too soon to tell if we have any regrets.

However, If I had it to over again I would have bought 2 smaller contracts (150 HH + 150 BWV) instead of 305 BWV.

In the grand scheme of things, though, one could hardly call that a mistake. In my mind, I bought the banana split instead of two single dip cones. Delicious!

ps. We already plan to add-on at HH as soon as we burn off these calories, er...pay off the loan.

There are very few rooms on Disney property that are the equal of even a studio. The sale at BC wasn't for rooms that were the equal of the BCV studio. Something that was brought home to me last year when I switched over to AKL. Loved it...but struggled with the lack of a coffee maker, fridge, microwave, dishes and sofa.

My advice...if you've got less than 200 points go ahead and enjoy the discounts! Variety is the spice of life and all that. But discount codes aren't a reason to regret the DVC purchase ...unless they are on DVC rooms.

The only moment I had was back with the Priority Seating fiasco. It was beginning to sound like only Disney guests were going to be able to get a jump on Priority Seating, and they'd forgotten about hooking DVC reservations in. But they never implemented the change that the rumors said.

If you do buy, be very aware of what you are buying - a timeshare. Not pool hopping privleges, or the ability to get discounts, or the ability to cruise on points. All those things could disappear over the life of your contract. Set your expectations on a good room, prepaid, at a decent price. Expect that availability at the seven month window may be limited - if you buy SSR thinking you'll be able to stay at VWL over the holidays, you are setting yourself up for regrets.

We just got back a few weeks ago from our first trip home. Can't say it was the best thing I'd ever done (marrying my husband and having my kids would be two that outrank buying DVC), nor can I say I wish we'd done it sooner (OK, one trip sooner, but before that it would have been financially uncomfortable for us). But I was pretty proud of myself for having done it.

Our investment 7 years ago has more than payed for itself! We don't even look at room codes....No need to !

I've regretted not buying at VWL and maybe not being more patient and waiting for the SSR offering. (I bought at BCV last spring and will use my menbership for the first tiem thsi December.)

I perosnally think the SSR deal is the way to go with the longer contract. The pool looks very promising, too. I don't think you coudl go wrong with SSR. The original OKW owners coudl now sell thier contracts and make lots of money plus have enjoyed all their trips since! You woudl be startinga t the beginning of the contrcat with SSR if you joined there now.

Our only regret is that we wish we'd bought resale at OKW, instead of VWL. At the time, we expected to love VWL, but that was before DH stayed at OKW. That's probably why I recommend staying at different DVC resorts before you buy, if that's possible.

Never regretted buying any of our contracts with DVC. Only regret - not having an unlimited bank account so me and DH could own 2000 points each and retire there!

The issue of discounts - when, where, how much, calling LD at 7 AM, hoping maybe they'll offer something when we want to go - is one of the things that started us looking at DVC! We know what we're getting, and what we'll pay, year after year after year. Play the AP Discount Waiting Game? No thanks! DVC for me!

ummm let me think, NEVER!

No discount Disney has ever offered would allow me to get a 9 point studio at BW or OKW for roughly 50 dollars including tax! Or an 18 point one bedroom for 90!!

Not to mention I don't have to worry about silly codes!!! I hated waiting for those!

No regrets, except not buying sooner!

We still go on AP codes, sometimes last minute trips or add-ons to DVC trips home. It is a nice way to enjoy some of our other favorite resorts without using points.

Don't regret buying at all, but I do fret over the "extra" years at SSR. I feel like I am missing out somehow... I'll be so old when my DVC ends, yet still I fret, like if I live to see my DVC end, it'll kill me!

We bought in 93... we have had wonderful trips in 1 and 2 bedrooms with a full kitchen and washer and dryer plus the soaking bath tub with a jacuzzi... compare that to a FTP at All Stars or POR.... I don't think so....

No regrets- we bought 170 points at BW in 1998 and have added on 3x's to our current 355 points. We have been lucky enough to stay at all the DW dvc resorts, like them all very much, and are able to look foward to at least 2 trips annually- we usually go down with my sisters familly (they joined when we did and also have added to their original contract).Wish we bought sooner.
