Do you enjoy listening to Native American/First People/Indiginous music? I have since I was a kid because it let me feel a connection to my Native American lineage that I know so little about (but I have been trying over the years to learn more about it). Do you find the music calming or interesting? Have fun with the thread and please be respectful. :-):music:🌎

I don’t regularly listen to Native music, but I’ve visited many Native cultural centers and always love the music and dance performances.

Do you have a favorite Native American cultural center you have visited?

Native American music is a persistent reminder of what we have to be thankful for here. I'm descended from nine members of the Leiden congregation who the Wampanoag accepted and helped establish themselves in what would become America.

I find Native American music soulful and stirring, I love flute music and played woodwinds myself in school.

Thank you for posting and thanks be to you and your people 🙏

Thanks for the comment and welcome to the Disboards.:welcome: For the record, I consider myself white but I value and respect all parts of my heritages equally. It's unfortunate that tracking down information on Native American ancestory can be extremely difficult. The Native American ancestor that I'm decended from was born in the 18th century but died in the 1830's, so before death certificates were required. Thus trying to find out more information has been very frustrating.

It's very cool that you have Pilgrim ancestors.

Also, if you do have an interest in genealogy, I have a genealogy thread on the community board.

I enjoy a wide assortment of music and do enjoy listening to this and other cultures music - I’m often introducing others to different music

Thank you! I heard of the board somewhere online. Long time Disney fan and there's so much good information here. I know what you mean about the VRs in the early and mid 19th century. I started my quest to help my Mom get into the DAR and had several brick walls before settling on an ancestor with the acceptable documentation.

I'm currently trying to see if I have an ancestor who qualifies for SAR/DAR.

I don't have any recordings but when I hear it on TikTok videos I always stop and listen as it brings back childhood memories of going to Powwow every year. My family is Osage and Quapaw and we are all meeting up with extended family at the end of the month to attend the Kihekah Steh Powwow in Oklahoma which I haven't been to in years. I just love the beating drum and singing.

We live in an area surrounded by reservations. We hear the drums and music a lot. The school functions always have native dancing and music. My kids grew up with it.
One time, we heard an older native man singing down by our lake. It was beautiful. He sang while gazing at the lake. I will always remember that.:)
