Do you buy into supporting the other Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs?

Whenever I hear the media like TSN claim if there is one Canadian team left in the Stanley Cup Playoffs they now become Canada's team and all of Canada should support them. Well I am wondering no matter if your fan of the Leafs, Canadiens, Senators, Canucks, Flames or Oilers would you be cheering for that Canadian team to win? Personally when the Senators made the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007 I wanted Anaheim to win, because I hate the Senators and if it was the other way around with the Leafs being in the Stanley Cup Finals, I doubt fans of the Canadiens or Senators would want them to win. Also in the 2004 when the Flames made the Finals did any Oilers fans want them to win and vice versa in 2006 when the Oilers made the Finals, did any Flames fans want them to win?

I do. While my hubby is a huge Habs fan I would still cheer for another Canadian team to win if they were the only Canadian team left.

I LOVE the Sens, and Boy are we rooting for them Tonight!

However, that being said, if it came down to the final two teams, and one was NOT the Sens, I'd root for whichever team had a player(s) who are in my top 10 of another team list. If by chance for instance the Penguins make it down to one of the last two teams playing, I'd root for them before any other team because of Sydney Crosby (who also happens to BE Canadian).
Truth be known, I'd root for them LONG before I'd ever root for the Leafs!

Hockey does not end when my team is out. Hockey ends when the cup is won, and I want to see that last game no matter who is playing!

When my team, the Bruins, is eliminated from the playoffs (and they ALWAYS are :headache:) I usually find myself rooting for a team that is left because of the makeup of that particular team (usually an underdog), not where they geographically may be located. Conversely, I'll never root for the Penguins - simply because the NHL expects me to! :)

Depends on the team. There's no chance in the world that I could cheer for Calgary or Toronto. But the others, possibly. I'm not stuck on the cup coming to Canada. I have favorites in the US. I like Detroit, Chicago and Pittsburgh.

Screw that. I'm a Leaf fan, and once the Leafs are out (usually around November) I hope for the Habs and Sens doing as horrible as possible.

Nope...i'm a bad bad Canadian :rotfl: Think it stems from all those years of a Flames/Oilers rivalry.......if my teams not in it i cheer for teams that have players on it that i like :rolleyes1

I felt bad for some buddies of mine who are Habs fans during their most recent turmoil and chose to have heart and not bother them too much when their team sucked and they were appreciative of that. But now that they are back to doing well enough and the Leafs continue to be out of the playoffs they ridicule me endlessly. Same goes with the one Sens fan buddy I have who complained to me when the Sens made it to the finals that everyone in Toronto wanted them to lose. Well, that friend sends out an email to everyone we know the day the Leafs were eliminated this year with a picture of a bar somewhere advertising "free beer for all Leafs playoffs games." I emailed him yesterday offering to buy him a case of beer for every Sens playoff game in the second round and beyond. He wasn't pleased with me.

So I guess what I am saying is that I would be more than happy to see the Habs and Sens lose every game that they play be it pre, reg or post-season. I'm not going to be nice to those clowns anymore. But every year I cheer for all the western province teams. That will stop next year though when the LEafs return to the playoffs, hopefully at the expense of the Sens and Habs. I've already started planning the 2011 Stanley Cup parade here in Toronto.

Not really, because there are "Canadians" on all the teams. Dh has always been a big Habs fan so he cheers for them. I cheer for Detroit (even though they got a butt kicking yesterday!) because we go to Detroit often so I feel most connected to them. Also, Detroit, as a city, could use a little good news.

On a personal note, I cheer against the Senators. My grandma is 104. When she turned 100, I contacted The Sens about sending her a letter or something. She has followed The Sens since the original Senators. She grew up in Ottawa & went to the games & sat in the press box because she had a friend who wrote for the paper. They sent me back a form letter saying they could not do anything because they get so many bday requests. At the same time, I had contacted the Blue Jays (who she follows but not the same sentimental value to her as The Sens), and they were terrific. They sent her a letter "To our biggest fan, we're so proud to honour you on your 100th birthday" with a hat and signed by front office staff. Ever since that I cheer against The Senators. If they don't have time for their special fans, then I have no time for them.

I would rather be poked in the eye with a hot poker then cheer for the Senators or worse yet the Habs!!!!!! Leafs fan all the way & once they are out I cheer for the team with the most players I like. Right now, cheering for the Penguins -gotta love Sid the Kid plus he's a maritimer like myself. Crosby, Malkin & Staal - hard not to cheer for them

I will cheer for just about anyone if the Habs are eliminated, except the Bruins or the Make Believes.

As for the leafs winning the Stanley Cup, this is all you have to look forward to. Leafs win the Stanley Cup

Well, I am a proud Canadian. Hockey is Canada's sport and I will ALWAYS cheer for the Canadian teams. I will have preferences of one over another, but I always like to see the Canadian team win. Yes I know the Sabres are Geographically close to Canada, but it's just not the same.
Go Canadiens Go! Go Canucks Go! Sorry for the Sens, but they were outmatched this go-around.

psst he is from Michigan

I am a Habs fan :cheer2:, have been since birth as there is a family connection to the team.
That being said, IF they are eliminated I will cheer for anyone but Washington. Not because they are currently up against Montreal, but because I have a rather low opinion of #8!
Although I must admit, it would be nice to see the Cup in Canada again.

Once my Senators are eliminated, I'll cheer for any Canadian team EXCEPT the Leafs (oh wait, cheering for the Leafs in the playoffs? isn't that an oxymoron or something?). Now that it's down to the Habs and Canucks, I have to admit I'm rooting for Vancouver this year. It would be nice to see them win since they've never won a cup, and they do have a great team.

I do with my exception being the Red Wings as I have worked in Detroit for 18 years. It is a dilemma when it gets down to it, but in the end my allegiance will be for the Red Wings.
