Do you/are you keeping things from your kids childhood for them in the future?

My Mom kept a lot and I don't. Only an outfit or 2 that reminds me of them as a baby. Their first kid writing workbooks and things with their handprints on and pictures of them like presents they made in PS/elem for me.

I will be keeping their AG dolls and access and maybe a few toys but out went most to someone who can play with it now. I got to have something to do when I am a GM. ;)

My mom has kept an outfit from each of us kids that we came home in the hospital in. Also, our artwork too. Its in my designated box. Its pretty fun to go thru it all. She also has kept all of my doll stuff.
American Girl, Bitty Baby, ect....

Mostly I mean toys, books, sentimental items, etc. Our house is getting so cluttered and we have a lot of toys, etc that my 10 yr old DD doesn't play with, but I have a hard time getting rid of them!

Of course I have gotten rid of all the baby toys. We have a rummage sale almost every year, because we have such a small house and nowhere to keep anything. But I've been trying to save a few things as memories for the future for my DD. I've saved a couple baby outifts, shoes, and her first toy and book. But, I've also thought of keeping some of her favorite books and toys.

Am I weird? I do this mostly because as a child we moved around a lot and there is nothing left from my childhood. I have 1 doll and my set of Little House on the Prairie books from when I was a kid. I'm always a little sad that I don't have more.

So, if you do save things, what do you save and where do you store it? Thanks for the advice! :)

I'm not big on saving stuff, but I have saved a few things that are particularly meaningful. Like the crib comforter, bumpers, and curtains that I made and used with all three kids. And the Peter Rabbit pictures that I intricately cross-stitched. My older sons Legos and wooden train tracks. A couple of my DDs dolls. A few clothes and special blankies. :lovestruc

last year I brought some things to my son's house (drawings he made, projects, etc.) i was expecting.. "OH! look at this!!!" "I remember this! I can't believe yousaved it!"
instead, i got, "gee, mom, why don't you kee these things? they obviously mean more to you than they do to me" :scared1::sad2::rotfl:

It probably works better for daughters.:confused3

I always find the hardest things to give away are the homemade items- hand knit or sewn by family. I just tell myself there is someone out there who is wearing it and that is what they are meant for not to sit in a bin for 30 years- I always donate them to a charity never throw away. I have no interest at all in looking at or owning any of my baby/childhood clothing or crafts etc so I tell myself what I keep for my children is for me not for them later......my parents did a book that held a picture for each year and had pockets to store the odd school work/craft thing and that is all I have and that is plenty- there were some clothes and stacks of school work but I got rid of it long ago. We all have our own baby books too which were interesting to compare once we had our own children to see how growth/feeding was the same or different. We have saved one box of "baby/toddler" toys for when younger ones come to visit we drag it out.

I am only keeping the Thomas trains and the Lego. I would never get my money back if I sold them and I am not giving that stuff away.

MIL kept EVERYTHING and would bring it over by the box load thinking DH kept the stuff. The day he said oh its garbage day and marched it to the curb did it stop. MIL of course was offended but got the hint.

I really think that we as parents treasure these things but I have sons who really don't. Also I am not setimental at all so one they are done with something it goes.
