I don't normally tip if I am only staying one or 2 nights in a hotel, but for a week at WDW I did.
I left $50 at the end of our week for mousekeeping. I loved that every day when we came back to our room there was a surprise waiting for us. She did the cutest things with the towels and the kids loved it. She also made sure we had enough clean towels for everyone in the room. That has never happened anywhere else, we always have to ask for more. She replenished the little toiletries everyday, even though we didn't use them. And she even turned on the AC for us so that the room wouldn't be hot when we returned.I thought leaving a little something for her was the least I could do.

Wow, I'm kind of embarrassed now, I didn't realize so many people tipped that much. I always just leave $2 a day.

$2 bucks?!?! $2 bucks isn't going to convince any mousekeeper to keep your beloved toothbrush from taking the plunge of death into your resort room toilet while you're blissfully eating a Dole Whip in Adventureland, my friend. You're going to have to pony up a lot more jack than that!! ;)

Hmm... excuse me while I figure out if it's less expensive to pony up the extra $3 a day, or just buy a new toothbrush for each day I'm on vacation. :lmao:

How expensive ARE toothbrushes nowadays? (Note: I may not know the answer to that question but I DO brush my teeth daily!!) :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I have tipped on occasion. Now we don't tip. We clean up after ourselves, put our trash in the garbage, wipe down the bathroom counters, make our beds, etc. I even put my toothbrush back in its holder when done. The only thing the maid has to do is collect our towels, that I put in a pile and take out the trash.

I am all for tippng waitstaff and even tipping for my luggage but I do feel that tipping is getting out of hand. I feel that there is a tip jar everywhere. I did waitress years ago and understand the need there. My mom worked 2 waitress jobs to put food on the table. Back then her pay per hours was less than $2 an hour. I really don't know what the pay is now but probably nothing near minimum pay.

Our room is always spotless with only unmade beds, a few full trashcans and used towels (in a neat pile) for the maid to take care of. I do leave a tip at the end of our stay unless the service is bad but no way is it $5 a day!

No. I don't tip. I make sure that my room is not such a mess when I leave it. The housekeepers don't have to do much.

Well then most of you will think I am crazy, because I put all the towels in the tub, gather all the garbage and leave by the sinks, and straightened the bed.
$5.00 Daily.
But you see I used to do housekeeping, so I know what slobs some people are.

I always leave a few bucks each day. Personally I think $2 a day is better than zero a day, so I don't feel the need to pony up for a few more jack like a previous poster suggested. With that in mind, if everyone left a few bucks each day it would be nice for the housekeepers and make a difference.

I always leave it each day because if you check-out on your housekeepers day off then someone else gets the money, therefore by leaving a tip each day it ensures it goes to the one cleaning the room.

I was a bellman (bellperson, I'm a female) in a hotel on the LV Strip for a few years. We didn't work "with" the housekeepers, but alongside them on most days during check out time. We would enter rooms to get luggage and money was left on the sheets, we knew that was for the housekeepers and that is where it would stay...for the housekeeper. We would get ours when we saw the guest again and delivered his luggage to him. Anyway, housekeeping is a back breaking job, far different than working a counter at McDonalds. I too do not tip the fast food workers, or the Starbucks employees, I think that is overkill as well, however, housekeepers have my gratitude and I know it is a tough job. Even if they enter a clean room where the guests have picked up after themselves (as it should be anyway) it is still tough making as many beds each day as they do. I make 2 beds each day, but on the days when I change sheets I make 4 beds, and that knocks me up.
When I was a bellman, the housekeepers were responsible for anywhere between 8-16 rooms a day. That is insane!

So, in answer to the op, yes I always leave a few bucks each day for the housekeepers whether we are staying with the mouse or not. :thumbsup2

We tip at the end of our vacation. We also keep our room neat and tidy so we aren't a big job to take care of.

My very first trip I only did it at the end... then I learned that you may not have the same person every day....so now, I do it daily (but I have forgotton before)
and one time, on our last day...all we had left was Disney Dollars :) She got some of those...

At the end - if a good job has been done.. The amount varies according to how many days I actually allowed them to enter the room - which is usually every other day..

I leave $5 each day of the trip. I realize that it is not technically a tipped positon at WDW, but really appreciate all the little scenes the housekeeper makes with my DDs stuffed animal, etc. I feel like they go above and beyond in that way, and so I am happy to tip.

Yep, I make up Mousekeeping envelopes and tip each day. I think of it as a thank you for making my room my home away from home.
