Do we tip the mousekeepers daily or at end of trip

Where do you leave the tip if you're not in the room? I'm always afraid they'll miss it and think we're rotten vacationers!

We always leave ours with a little note (usually written on the note pad) on the desk or by the TV... it's usually pretty obvious..

we use the notepad, too - folding over a sheet and putting the money in between with a note that says "For Housekeeping! Thank you!" and leave it in between the mirror and faucet at the bathroom sink!

I have been to disney 5 times and ddint know about tipping until last year before I went.I did tip but tipped on the morning that we were leaving cause the hotel let the persons name that was doing the cleaning.I stayed at Shades of Green 5 times and last year was the first time that they left the person name who was cleaning our room.The persons name was left on the night stand so thats where I left the tip.Maybe Shades of Green started doing this cause maybe the housekeeping people found out that the other hotels were getting tips and thye werent.You could also leave the tip money on the toilette seat

We tip daily just in case it's not the same person. We leave a little thank you note with money on the nightstand.

We started going to DIsney when DD and my nieces were very little. We'd bring envelopes (on which I'd written "Mousekeeper"), markers, Disney stickers, etc. and let the kids decorate the envelopes while waiting in the airports or while in-flight. They made great "keep busy" work in the theme of the vacation. Before last summer's trip, DD (now in high school) brought up the subject of the tip envelopes, so I packed some for our flight. My big girl decorated the envelopes just like when she was little. She had fun and I had a "mommy-moment"!!

You just might want to go with three dollars or four but two would be perfectly fine! May sure you indicate it is for them- I have heard of others who just left a the tip out and the staff did not take it because it was not indicated that it was for them. I make envelopes with little notes saying thank you. The great thing is you can make and fill them ahead of time and put one out every morning.

I believe in giving tips for services that rely on tips or for above and beyond service. I tip the housekeeper at the beginning of my trip so I get a bit better service and knowing that with 4 people in a room for a week, we will get messy and I appreciate the extra work involved. I leave it in an envelope with a thank you to the person who's card is on our nightstand. During the week, if we get good service, I will tip at the end of the stay as well.

I have to say though after reading this thread, that 'duh!' of course the housekeeper might change! Especially during a week long stay. I think I'll go for the daily tipping instead but I'll only do it if the room is cleaned and taken care of. I definitely won't ONLY tip at the end of a trip though since I want them to take care of me and giving them a couple bucks each day should 'grease the wheels'. Do I tip for towel animals? No...but I do get towel animals when I tip so it doesn't hurt!

Of course, this daily/weekly/whatever tipping may not matter. I've read other threads that say they 'pool' the tips but I have no idea! (I'd love it if someone does know!)

In the past, my mom was one to tip when we checked out. She was actually quite annoyed when I told her about my tip envelopes for each day....the thought that the housekeeper pocketing her $20 on the last day was different than the one who had cleaned our room all week hadn't occurred to her.

There are $4 of us this trip, so I will tip $5 a day. When it was my husband, son and I , I tipped $5 as well, because my 17 yr old is a slob by nature .

Hubby and I keep our room very clean so I don't think we've experienced "the full range" of what housekeeping is responsible for.

What is the whole scope of what they do?

I know they make the bed, change out towels, and replenish the toiletries, and do neat little add ons (like towel animals) but are they actually supposed to clean the whole room, like pick things up off the floor and put them in suitcases or in a neat pile on the bed or something? Am I missing other things they do?

Please no flaming - I am trying to learn. And I guess we just don't travel enough for me to have put much thought into housekeeping duties.

We've always left a tip daily. Who knows if it's the same person that is assigned to your room everyday.

I am a frequent business traveler, and have done consulting for the Resort and Hospitality industry - Not Disney unfortunately.

The industry relies on costumer satisfaction more than you can imagine, and successful companies do have systems that incentivate personnel from the infomation provided from the actual guests/costumers.

Having said that, I have to note that I do not know for sure what are Disney incentivation policies with Mousekeeping, but I can imagine they have something in place.

Whatever your tipping habits, and if you feel received a special treatment or service, I suggest you take the time to leave a note to the manager - at the front desk, or later by mail. Housekeeping are not the only ones making the effort and chances are your kudos may get them incentives from the Big Mouse. It may have more impact on their bottom line than a few dollars

We tip everyday. $5.00 a day. I work in a hotel and I know how hard housekeepers work! I found mouse keeping tip envelopes that are down loadable at mouseforless.com and I use those.

When staying at a hotel of any kind I always tip daily.
When I stayed at BLT earlier this week, I left a tip at the end of my stay, for the mouskeeper who would have cleaned the studio after I left.

We always tip daily, with a little note that says Thanks and if we need any extras. We leave 3 to 4 dollar a day for 2 of us if we have our daughters 18 and 20. we tip around 5 or more depending on how many extras we need with them with us

I tip daily any time I travel because you never know if you will have the same housekeeper each day.
