Do we need to rent a car?

We're planning to stay inside Disney at the Port Orleans RS, but also hope to go shopping outside at outlets. Just wondering if there is good public transit from Disney to local malls? It would seem like a waste to rent a car while inside the park, but maybe that's best. Advice please

There is an outlet mall a very short drive - about 5 minutes from WDW. If you only intend on going once or twice - I would and have cabbed it. I think it was $8 one way...

Opinion always sems divided on this question--. We always have a car and always use it..inside WDW as well as out.
So many options with a car--and who wants to haul back tons of purchases from a Mall in a cab???
