Arriving to DL good neighbor on a Saturday afternoon. We were planning 2 day pass for both parks....should I up to a 3 day just for that evening? We could eat and meander but would we get any attractions done without FP on a Saturday?
The other option is to roam DTD but I was told it is not as large as WDW DTD

If you plan on seeing fireworks while you are there, I would get the extra day and do the fireworks that night. They get cancelled a lot, so getting them done first night would be great.

Also, I was going to mention that if you add that third day, you can get a ticket with magic morning. But if your other 2 days are Sunday and Monday, you probably won't be there for a magic morning day.

What time in the afternoon? Are you late night people...park is open til midnight a lot of nights!

Fast passses will probably not be left for popular rides later in the day but you could always wait stand by. Going into the parks later in the day diffenately limits you as far as attractions. You should download the offical Disneyland app now to check to see the wait times on Saturdays around the time you will be going to see if it's worth it to you. The app also shows you fast pass availability and return times. But just going to hang around and get some food is pretty awesome by itself.

There are a lot of attractions that are still doable in the evening, and FPs can still be found for several, as well. BTMRR comes to mind. We've arrived later in the day and gone into the parks and still managed several rides without significant waits.

You can likely get lots done that evening if it is a midnight closing and you are going while Deluxe and lower AP holders are still blocked. After fireworks, the place really empties out and a lot of rides are near walk ons. Especially fantasyland.

It really depends on how you like to tour the park and who is in your party, young kids? teenagers? adults only? You could definitely do a lot even when entering later in the day, especially if it's a summer Saturday when APs are blocked out. Plus you can see the Electrical Parade and fireworks. However, if you have young kids and want to start your visit fresh and early on Sunday morning then maybe skip Saturday. Have fun!

We opted for a character dinner...Goofys at DLH when we arrived around 5:00 pm. On another trip we arrived at 1:00 pm and went into the parks then.
