In March '06 we saw a souvenir we wanted to buy, didn't get it on the spot, then couldn't find it later. Yeah, I know, a rookie mistake, and we won't repeat it. Anyway, it was sold near the entrance of Soarin' and was these tiny, cloned plants that came in a small plastic vial, growing in a gel solution. These were TINY. There were roses, my wife's favorite flower, those Venus Fly Trap plants and some kind of palm. The CM told us they 'made' them right there in Epcot and they could be transplanted if they outgrew the vial. Getting these is Job One this March. Anyone see these recently.

Thanks,

You probably mean the ones in the tall paper carton with the die cut window so you can see the plant. If I recall the art shows Tailor Mickey climbing a beanstalk or something?

Yep, still a good seller after (literally) decades!

Besides the palms, the also have orange and lemon trees.

I haven't seen them recently, but maybe in the last month or so, seems like somewhere near the desk where you make tour arrangements in the Land. It's right by the Soarin area.

My daughter bought one In October when we were there. She wanted the Venus Fly Trap, but they were out. THe CM said they'd be getting them back in, so it didn't look like it was something they were going to be discontinuing anytime soon. She bought a spider plant there, too, last January and has sent repotted it. It's doing real well. I can't remember the kind she bought in Oct, but it's still in the jar and doing great. Hope this helps.

If August is recent enough, Yes they still have them. We debated them also but it was pouring that day and didn't want anything extra to carry. Still at the same place you saw them.

They had them in late DEC as well . It's in some shops but the bulk of choices are at the Land tour desk to the left of Soarin. They had 6 to 8 choices if I recall correctly while looking at them with DD.

Thanks for the encouraging news, everyone. They've been there for decades? How I missed them over the last 10 years I'll never know, but I'll have a garden of them in a few weeks.

I used to BEG for one every trip when I was little! I always wanted the orange tree to bring home and was never allowed. If it makes any difference, the only place I really remember ever seeing them was at what is now that $10 store in Downtown Disney. They used to have all that gardening stuff in there, and that's the only place I really recall seeing them - at least regularly. Might've run across them here and there elsewhere, but just don't remember. So maybe you just didn't spend any time in that store?

I was excited when I saw them outside of Soarin' - almost finally broke down and bought one for myself. Someday!

They used to be in that little store that was down there until they added soarin.

are these just regular plants or are they miniturazed or something....

The ones I saw last March, the Fly Trap, Rose and Palm were just VERY small versions of their everyday cousins, planted in some gel-like medium and encased in a clear plastic container. Unless my memory is completely screwed up, a distinct possibility, the CM told me that they're genetically engineered in Epcot's Land facilities and they required almost no attention until such time as they got too big for their case. I was hanging around that area as part of a Baby Swap on Soarin' with one of my grandchildren and told myself I'd buy them later. They were gone by then.

We saw them in October, same place as others mentioned. There was a Christmas Cactus that I wanted to get. My problem is we kill EVERYTHING, even silk plants. :guilty: We amaze ourselves how some flourishing plant can suddenly droop ever within days of our care. Maybe in July I will get one and just keep it at my moms house and visit it every so often. This way it stands a chance of survival!

ETA...Bill hope you enjoy your stay at BWV! It is our FAVORITE!!

This sounds like a very interesting souvenir!

"DVCFAM" - :lmao: my SIL has the SAME EXACT PROBLEM! Now I wish I could say the same. I put a stick in the ground and it grows and takes over everything. I am over-run with lovely large houseplants that WON'T DIE!

Hope you are able to get the plant you want "Bill from PA!" :)

I remember seeing these in Oct. as well...does anyone know if you can carry them on in the plane? I KNOW my DS will want one of these....

I've never seen these before, but I'm going to have to look around. Sounds interesting.

Bill - I have had 2 of them - yes they are made by cloning in the Land Pavillion. If you do the Behind the Seeds Tour, you can see where they are made. The tour is actually pretty cool (and cheap - like $10), that's what sparked me to get one of these little guys. I think they're called "Mickey's Space Garden" or something like that.
They are virtually unkillable because you never actually do anything with the plant. It's all sealed up. If there is a spore in the vial when they seal it, it will eventually grow mold (that happened to one of mine) The other needs to escape soon.
I have not tried transplanting yet.

They have different varieties available at different times. I have been waiting for Coffee Plants to be there at the same time as me without luck. They were making those when we did our Tour. Maybe one of my trips this year, I'll score.

Ive always (at least as far back as the 80s) wanted to buy one of the boxed versions they sold there as part of the Land exhibit. When I was there in Sept they now had other plants in the jar with a growing gel (like you mentioned). I picked up a vanilla plant. Its grows really really slow (I think 2 branches have grown since then) and hasnt needed to be repotted yet.
