Do they need proof of age for my little ones at the gate? Or is it on the honor system? Just want to know if I need to bring paperwork? Anyone been asked for it before?

glad I got here early!!They work on the honor system. I can imagine you could be asked at anytime to show proof of age, but I haven't seen on here anytime that someone has been called out on it.
If you don't want to take a birth certificate with you, see if there is a children's fair near that has a booth that will make little ID cards for you. We have a festival every summer and the big children's hospital (here in the state) sets up a booth and will make little ID cards with all of the kid's information: picture, name, birth date, parent's name(s), birthmarks, allergies, phone numbers, etc. We've had these made up the last 2 years and they are perfect to keep on hand.

Well if they did require proof, these ID cards wouldn't work. Any time they have asked of proof of ID, such as for the Birthday Promo, for a child it has been a Government Issued ID. A school ID doesn't even work.
As for needing proof, Cheshire Figment a CM on these boards works at the front gate of TL and he has had managers brought in for a few obvious situations. He posted at least once about parents stuffing their obviously not under 3 child in a stroller, putting a pacifier in their mouths, have then hold a teddy bear and claim they are 2. Well the you can imagine how embarrassed this 5 year old is when they take him out of the stroller.
So yes its the honor system but only to a point.

AirTran accepted it as a form of ID for DS(3) last year. Regardless, they are darn nice to have on hand in case the unthinkable happens and you can't think straight enough to give important info over to the authorities.
They used to make pocket birth certificates with official seals on them but they are no longer considered valid. I wouldn't want to carry around official documents if I don't have to because I don't trust anything not to happen to them.
OP asked for ideas... that was mine and it works for us.
