Do they ever go to sleep?

Update - My DD-9 was picked up at 10 am from the sleepover. She said she went to sleep at 7am She went right to her bed when I got her home and woke up about 2pm. She's out fishing with daddy now which is much better than I thought this day would turn out

Our turn next for DD's sleepover in June but I am only inviting 2 kids - probably the ones who want to stay up all night with my luck

I remember sleepovers I went to in the 70's very well. The very first one (I was probably about 10), we all stayed up until 5 am and then slept til 10.

I have two boys so their sleepovers tended to be smaller and not as loud.

Every other one after that, no matter how large or small, we always stayed up til at least 3 or 4 am. That's what sleepovers are. We played games, told stories, and ate all night long. My sister just hosted about 10 girls at her home the other night and I guarantee they stayed up all night.

We all grew up with basements and that's where my sister had her daughter's friends too.

Let them have fun.

The biggest slumber party I went to was for a 9th birthday party, and I'm fairly certain the girl's father wanted to kill us. He really scared us with his yelling, and she was never allowed to have a sleepover again.


Honestly I don't see the point in having a party where you stay over if you're EXPECTING sleep. If DS ever has one, I'll make sure it's on a day when no one has obligations (this was before a soccer day for some? they just shouldn't have gone IMO or should have had a separate room to sleep) and just expect to stay up.

But I'm a nightowl (always the last to sleep at slumber parties) so it's not like it would be a hardship.

Screeching, however, is NOT allowed.

That's about six too many children. Even six can be unmanageable. How do you feel today? Will you do it again?

My kids had sleepovers a lot when they were younger. If I had boys and girls the boys would sleep in our upstairs den, and the girls would sleep in my daughter's room. I would doze in the living room, just to keep watch. They still talk about playing hide and seek in the dark. I remember many times listening to steps running up and down the stairs and lots of laughter - this at 3am.

Well...they won the soccer game-- so despite the lack of sleep, most of them still had the energy to play hard! Around here, most week-end days are soccer or softball days, so there's no getting around that.

Would I do it again? Perhaps with fewer children...or perhaps without a few of the loudest ring leaders (but they are dd's good friends and nice kids by day).

I do think this will make the regular old "summer sleepovers" seem like a breeze this year! 1-2 kids--no "party activities"-- no problem!
