Father-in-law will be needing an ECV our entire vacation. Do the van taxis have room to load them in? I have no idea how this will work, we've never been to Disney with an ECV before. Thanks!
Room, probably - especially if you're only using them to get around Disney and not to transport you all plus luggage. But only a few taxi vans are actually wheelchair/ECV-ready, with a ramp and tie-downs. Any taxi van should be able to accommodate the broken-down-for-transport ECV in the area where the luggage is usually stowed.
My dad used an ECV during one of his trips. We had an early breakfast reservation at the BC, so the night before I called Mears to arrange for the van taxi. The driver showed up on time, had Dad ride the ECV into the back of the taxi, and tied it down. As far as both of us can remember, he had to sit on the ECV for the ride. (We had 4 other passengers.)
The advice I remember getting was that there are a limited amount of taxis equipped to carry ECVs, so make sure you call ahead.
