Our children will be flying for the first time in a couple weeks on our first trip to WDW and my DH and I are wondering if we will need some sort of ID for them at the airport.

We fly pretty frequently, so obviously, we know that we need ID, but what about the kids? They are 9 and 5, so they have their own seats/tickets, if that makes a difference!

Thanks for all your help! :)

I've flown several different airlines, and most only ask for the ID's of people in the party over the age of 18. If they were flying alone I believe they would need their own ID's.

We flew out of Newark, NJ in May with 10 and 5 year olds and they did not need ID.

To be safe, you can call your airport or airline and check. :)

Thank you! Now, why didn't I think of calling the airline and checking!! lol

We've only been told to bring birth certificates for them.

Birth certificates to go on a domestic flight?hmm first i've heard of that!

sorry..off topic...I noticed your other travel vacations... Sandals fan too huh? we've stayed at 6 of them, and been to 9. Just found a property called Grand Lido, Braco that is similar to Sandals, but is even better! I'm a travel agent in May we stayed there and was VERY impressed! (and we had the bottom room category) If I can ever answer any questions re: different resorts email me at tdtravel@adelphia.net

I would definitely bring birth certificates. I was told on Southwest last year that they are now checking all kids ID's b/c of people trying to kidnap kids and fly them out of the area.

Now we have flown Southwest since then and they haven't asked, but you wouldn't want to be without the birth certificates if they ask.

My kids have flown many, many times and have never needed an Id. They have never needed one even when unaccompanied.
The person designated to pick them up needs one but they don't. The only time I have ever needed a birth certificate was on Southwest and it was when he was under 2!
