Do the discounted rooms at the CR just go fast?

We are thinking we will stay at the CR this January. I have not made a room only ressie yet because I was thinking I would just wait and see about any good deals that come out this fall (4/3, 40% room discount, etc.).

Whenever I play around with special offers, I can get Epcot resorts at a great discount ($200/night!), but the CR is never available. Never. Is this because they were never available in the first place or because people had pre-booked and then applied the discount when it came out?

Do I need to book now and apply discount later? Will it apply most likely?

Not sure what to do. I would at least like to wait until the rates come out for 2011 so that I can book at value season rather than the highest rate.

What's your advice? Experience with discounts at CR?

All I can tell you is that the first day the 4/3 deal was offered for the time we were going (January of this year), I requested (through my TA) the Contemporary. She informed me I couldn't get the deal at the CR, and to pick an alternative. So we stayed at the Poly, and loved it. Good luck!

The 2011 Rates have already been released and are now available. If you are planning on booking a package you are able to book a basic plan (a package with just the room) with gtd rates now. When a package discount comes out you can just apply the new rate based on availability. The CR is more difficult to come by due to the fact that an entire wing was razed to make way for Bay Lake Tower. January also has the Marathon and MLK Weekend which are popular travel dates and the CR has limited availability for discount rooms as it is.

The CR is one of the convention hotels. Often the cheapest rooms are on a "room block" for attendees of a convention. The rooms stay on hold up until a certain date usually a month or two before the conference. If convention attendees don't book all of the rooms by that said date then the rooms will be released and available for the general public.

Chances are most likely that the rooms you can't find aren't being booked by individual travelers but rather are on hold for convention attendees.
