Do rooms become immediately available online when someone cancels?

I was wondering how this works....I have read on this site that availability changes by the second and what may be there one minute, may not be there the next.
Question is.... when a room becomes available (which I assume is because someone cancelled or modified), does the available room immediately just 'show up' on the booking tool website? Does it go through member services first before being released online? Does this room become available online before it gets assigned to someones wait list (if someone requested it)
 
Yes - it seems to be immediately put back into available inventory. Just cancelled a couple of reservations online last week, and then checked availability out of curiosity. Both of the reservations showed right up in the online availability system.

This was for a sold out time period, for villa types that were sold out. They were not there before I cancelled, and were there after :)

Cancelled villas seem to be fair game for members who are booking online if they catch them before the waitlist manager catches them.
 
The WL is a batch job that runs a number of times a day and at a time that no one knows. So therefore a reservation could be available to match a WL and be snatched up by someone before the job runs.
 
There have been times where I canceled something and it showed up right away and then other times, when it did not.

But, I think more often than not, when someone cancels, it does go back into the online inventory and other members have an opportunity to book it before the process of matching waitlists happens.
