Although unusual still, more and more parents are beginning to home school in the UK.
In the last 5 years I can remember at least 4 parents who removed their children from state education and all for different reasons. One parent felt that the National Curriculum was too restrictive and when they couldn't get their child into the local Steiner school, opted for home schooling. One felt that their child was being bullied, and despite us excluding the main culprits, felt that she couldn't risk it happening again. One was a very gifted athlete so her parents chose to home school around her training sessions. The last one was a complete mystery to us. The first we knew was a letter from the parents to say they were removing him to home school. The LEA went round and there was nothing untoward going on but we never did get to know why the parents had made this decision.
