Do parents need to be at expo for 1/2 marathon 16 yr. runner?

My niece's 16 year old friend wants to run the Tinker Bell 1/2 marathon. Her parents have given her permission but will not be going. Do they just need to sign the consent form? They don't need to be there do they? Thanks.

As long as consent form is signed and she has a photo ID then parents don't need to be there. I've worked a few of the expos and we would check the parents driver's license if the kid didn't have one, but otherwise we didn't even look at ages.
