This week is prime viewing for a ISS passover (flyover). Last night the magnitude was a -3.3 and it was PHENOMENAL. My kids were very excited. It is so bright you will be able to see if from anywhere (including cities).

Check out Heavens Above to see when the ISS will passover you location.

Cool! What part of the sky should be we be looking at (we're in NC)?

Use heavens-above and it will tell you everything. The pass takes about 6 minutes or so.

Cool! We'll be looking tonite! Thanks for the links

I can't figure out how to figure out when the ISS will be over my city/state/region :confused3 . I'm trying to follow the instructions on Heavens Above and can't figure it out...

agnes!

Go to the blue link that says "database." You can choose your country and then enter your city. It will fill in your coorinates and then you can get a chart that shows when and where the ISS will be visible to you. You can even see the orbit map.

ETA - after it fills in your coorindates, at the top of the page there is a "here" link where you will find the chart.

I've tried to do this at least 3 times in the past and have never seen anything. What does it really look like? Will it look like a dot like a star in the sky, a blob, an airplane? I assume there are no lights on it that are visable. I just don't know how big of an object i'm looking for.

It will look like a VERY bright star moving across the sky.
You also have to know where its coming from and going to in the sky and how high up elevation wise.

I have tried using binoculars and it kinda looks like a bright blob..lol

Oooh - it's at 9pm tonight for us - how perfect! We'll be watching! Thanks for the heads-up! :thumbsup2

You might mistake it for an airplane, but airplane lights blink. The ISS will be a solid bright light and moving VERY fast across the sky.

Appreciate the info. Ours is about 10:20pm....a bit late for DS but I am sure he would be willing to push his bedtime for this (or anything else for that matter!). :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2Thanks for the info. I actually remembered, sort of figured out from the chart I printed out where to look and what time, and THERE IT WAS! Awesome!!

My DD8 is now determined to do a research project (this month while out of school) on the ISS ;)

Absolutely Awesome :thumbsup2

WOW!!! Thanks, we just saw it in the Nashville, TN area.

ETA: It was like a bright light moving across the sky. We could see it for several minutes.
