Just wondering, we're thinking of switching over to Nextels soon
have t-mobile now, and was wondering if anyone has used them and how the work. I've read in alot of posts that walkie talkies are good to have on the ship....will nextels work in place of those??:wave2:

Mine doesn't. If you check nextel.com you'll see there is no service in the Bahamas. So, once the ship pulls away from the dock your signal will be lost, and you won't have use of the phone/radio until the ship arrives back in port on the final morning.

On the 4 day Wonder, I was able to use my SprintPCS phone on the last day at sea. I could barely see the coast of Florida on the horizon, and that was enough to get a (weak) signal.

I didn't try it anywhere else.

Two-way radios are great to have on the ship, but Nextel's phone/radios won't help. With Nextel, you always need to have cellular coverage in order to use the radios (technically, the two-way radio function is really more like a cellular phone call on speakerphone, which is why you can connect across thousands of miles).

You'll need regular FRS or GMRS two-way radios that you can get in Best Buy or Circuit City for about $50 per pair.
