Do long answering machine messages annoy you??

It totally annoys me when I call someone and get a longgggg answering machine message....especially when I am on my cell phone or in a hurry. I have one friend that had a foreign exchange students and you get the student speaking in their language and then the english version....it is like the never ending message.. Dont get me wrong I enjoy a cute message but some of these messages are just too long....

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's as if people don't know how to leave a message and need instructions. My Dh's cell phone message used to say "This is Dom. I either have the phone off, am on the other line, am away from my phone, or am busy...leave a message, etc". Come ON! If the voicemail picks up people KNOW you can't answer the phone. I like messages that are short and sweet. Can you tell this one of my pet peeves?

I liked the old days. Most answering machines would bypass the message if you pressed the "*" button. I still try it, but it hardly works.

My peeve is people who don't listen to my message (home or cell) and leave a message for whomever. Machine states "If you're not trying to reach a _____ family member, don't leave a message-they won't get it!"

I agree....I get those message on my machine from some unknown person requesting another unknown to me person to call them back....sometimes with details.
So the next question....How do you nicely explain to a friend how totally annoying her message is....I have hinted, made a joke of it, but they continue this tradition of their students leaving these horrendous messages....I guess it boils down to they like it and they will probably leave it....I have called and when the machine picks up ...I hang up....I wonder how many others have done this.,,,,

People who leave annoying messages just annoy me too...

My mother once unintentionally left a long message. She forgot to hit the button that ended her message and there was about 1 minute of silence before the beep. When you are calling internationally, it adds up....lol.

What I hate even more though, are the people who leave messages so long that they get cut off. Come on, tell me what I need to know and hang up! I don't have an answering machine at home because I probably get 20 or more messages a day at work that I have to suffer through. You know the ones I am talking about. ...Hi...um.........I'm calling about the...um....report you need...............um.....


On the flip side, I also hate those messages where people just say, call me when you get in your office. Then you call and have to leave them a message that you called, and if they would have told you what they needed, you could have left the reply, but since they didn't, they'll need to call you back.

I am a very direct, get to the point person at work... I don't have time to waste.
