with handicap accessible rooms..meaning,,,,showers instead of bathtub's that you can walk right into? I'm not familiar with this time share..It is my sister's, and of course she has to call and ask questions before we make the plans to go. It is called Westgate Vacation Villas located 1 mile from WDW. I need to know this, because my Grandmother will be traveling with us and wont be able to step up into a bathtub/shower.

Thanks

I hope someone can help you out with specifics.
I can only offer some suggestions from non-WDW trips we have taken. We went to one place in Northern Minnesota that we were told was wheelchair accessible. I don't know what the people thought wheelchairs were able to do, but to get in, there was one step and a high threshold. Once you were in the room, you were on a landing that was about 6 feet square. One one side of the square, there were 2 steps down to the main bedroom. On the other side, it was one step down to the living room area. We had been told it was accessible. The problem is, accessible to someone who is not in a wheelchair looks very different. You tend to not notice things if they are not a problem for you.
I suggest, getting on the phone and verbally walking through the room (including, how do I get in from the parking lot). At least, have a list of questions and make it clear that if they are not sure, they should check and you will get back to them for the answers.

For more info on Westgate Villas and our horrid experience there you can check the Orlando board for my report from November (will NEVER stay there again)

BUT

the unit we had had a separate shower from the tub/jacuzzi and it was walk into ( slight lip/edge) on it.

Be sure to call, call, call, call and call them to keep requesting special accomodations. Write down the name of the person you talk with each time. Bring this with you.

When you exit Westgate and drive to the Intersection of 192 (Orlo bronson Hwy) go ACROSS at the light (do not turn onto 192). This is SHERBERTH Road. Follow Sherberth to the first light and turn RIGHT. (about 2 minutes) You are now on Disney Property--at the Animal Kingdom. This is a HUGE timesaver in driving time.

Don't fall for the "maintenance check" at the end of your trip. This is a cover to sell you timeshare. If you MUST do it, send only one person--both husband & wife must be present to sell you it.

I just read your posts, stevesmom. Thanks for the heads-up! I guess IF we end up staying there, we will see whats in store for us. My sister and her husband are the owners. I am the one who plans the vacations and the accomodations, but this time my sister will have to do all of the work with her time share. I hope it works out, if we even stay there..I kinda' hope we do, it will save money and allow us to stay for a longer visit. My biggest concern is for my Grandmother, she can walk, just not that well. She will have her wheelchair..Even my Mom, cannot walk too much for a long time...So I hope we get a room close by one of the pools.
