I've been coloring my hair for a few years myself, about 7 weeks ago (maybe more) I had it done at a salon for the first time. It didn't look that much better and for the price I'm thinking about doing it myself again. I have a 4 yr. old DD and never seem to make it to the salon. I have to go back for a trim because I really like my cut but I don't want to pay for the coloring again. I'm wondering who colors there own and who goes to a professional?

I colored mine for years. But, when I went to a lighter auburn, with highlights, I started going to a salon. Way to easy to mess that combo up!!! I tend to go a nasty strawberry blonde if the red isn't done just right.:earseek:

I do myhair myself also. My sister goes tothe Salon, I see no difference in the 2 and I like the idea of saving alot of money to do it myself. Also I can do it when I have the time and not worry about an appointment. I think if I saw a huge difference in the salon's job I would go but I have never been able to tell if someone goes to the salon or not.

I started coloring my hair last year and do it myself. I think if I were trying for blonde or something that required good highlights I would go to a salon but the color that I am currently using can be done at home.

I do both. I touch up in between and pay the next time for highlights.
As a hairdresser, I have several clients who color at home. As long as someone isn't going much lighter or trying to do highlights, I think they all look pretty good myself. Haircoloring has come a long way and if you follow the directions all seems to go well. 2 step processes get tricky though. I'd leave that up to a pro. And don't you save a lot of $$?!

I've been coloring my hair myself forever it seems :) I'm naturally a brunette, but about 10 years ago, I went blond... works well with my eye and skin tone. Anyway, I was getting worried I was looking "cheap" so I thought I would have a professional do it.

So this new girl I went to dyed it a brown color and then put in blond highlights.... well it looked aweful!!! People were asking me what was wrong with my hair. So, anyway, I just when back to doing it myself and I no longer go to the this girl who messed up my hair.

I've been getting my hair cut at a rather nice salon and the girl who cuts my hair now always compliments me on the hair color... I asked her what she would charge to color it and it was like $150 then $80 for touchups.... OK, CAN'T AFFORD THAT!! So anyway, I figure if my hair looked that bad, she would tell me just to get my coloring business.

Ok, long story short.... try to do it yourself first. It's really not that hard, getting the right shade is probably the hardest thing.

I do both. I do a color myself, a level 2 so that as it grows it will also fade some and won't look to startling. When I get it done at the salon, I get the permanent with highlights.
I did my sister's hair last week and I really like it. It was a two step, that new one that costs about $25. You put on color and then highlight it. I just wish I trusted her to do mine.

I do both too....usually every other time. Except in the summer when I go a bit lighter. My hair is dark so I don't think it is too much of an issue...if I was bleaching my hair I think I would leave that to a professional...

I go to the beauty supply place and buy Wella Color Charm Liquid Creme haircolor in light golden brown, at $4.00 a bottle. I bought a huge container of clear developer about a year ago for $3.99 which is still half full. I just mix (1 step) it's simple.
It's the same one they used at the salon I used to pay $155 for.

I started coloring my own hair after my stylist raised her prices in January. I can't and won't pay $85 for a touch up every 3-4 weeks! :earseek:

At the recommendation of a co-worker, I tried the Herbal Essence Hair color, with intense bleach blonding, color XL0 and it worked just fine! In fact, I like this color better than what it was before! And I can do it in my own home, for about $9.00, and I can do it whenever I want.

I only wish I had tried it sooner!

I go to a salon for my cut (which she does a wonderful job on) and then color myself.

I've colored forever so am very comfortable with most any product. For $6-7 a coloring, I can keep it in top shape--no bad root days!! And I'm not bragging, but there has never been one person who didn't think I get it professionally done.

Last October I decided I needed to do something about all the white streaks in my hair, and so I highlighted it. I left it in too long, but with SonjaB's help, I was able to fix the results. The original wasn't really bad, just such a drastic change from the original me.

Now I highlight & color my own hair, plus I cut it myself, too.
