Do I pick up my luggage or not?

Hi there - we're flying from Halifax, NS Canada into Newark, NJ and then connecting to Orlando. However, we go through US customs preclearance in Halifax before we even board the aircraft so when we land in Newark we will be treated as though we were on a domestic flight. I assume, then, that we put the tags on our bags in Halifax and simply proceed to DME upon arrival in Orlando and would NOT have to claim our bags first. Is that correct?

You are correct! If you go through US Customs prior to leaving Canada, you can use your yellow tags. We've done it through Pearson.

One thing to consider is when you land. If it's kind of late, and you want to get unpacked and settle in, you may want to handle your bags yourself anyway. It can take a few hours for them to get to your room through DME. You can retrieve them and have the bus driver stow them on the bus; we've done this once and have seen many folks do it also. Just a thought!
