Do I need birth certificates for my kids to fly?

If any of your kids are old enough that they could pass for an adult, you might want to bring some kind of photo ID for them. You might be able to get a state ID from your Motor Vehicle Admin. (We got them for our kids when we were flying very soon after 9/11.)

My DS14 is 6'2" and even though he still LOOKS like a kid I brought his passport the last time we flew. I didn't want to get slowed down at security.

We were flying out in August. I put my dd's first name on the ticket because that is the name I put on her frequent flyer card when she was a baby. We now call her by her middle name.

When we arrived at airport security, I handed the tickets to the agent, and she asked my dd what her name was. When my dd replied with a name other than what was on the ticket, the agent said, "Well, I am going to need to see some documentation with both names on it." So, I pulled out her birth certificate.

I guess we are going to need to bring that along every time since I cannot change the name on her frequent flyer card.
