Do I mention this in my phone interview?

I have a service dog, and she would obviously be coming to the CP with me if I go.
Last job I had, I got fired for not bringing my SD to the interview, and not telling them I was disabled until I was hired (my disability isn't really visible). They said no SD, I brought Nalla anyway and they fired me.
When I have my phone interview, should I tell them about my SD? I don't want to ruin my chances by mentioning her (and then not be able to go at all), but I also don't want to not disclose that and get kicked out upon arrival.
Ideas? Please?

Would you bring her to the park? I've never seen a service dog there (other than guests) so I really do think you should tell the interviewer.

You could (anonymously) call the Walt Disney World Jobline at 407-828-1000 and ask about company policy related to this, so you could have that background knowledge going into your interview.

Yeah, I would bring her into the parks. I can't work without her.

Jobline... I like that idea! I'll do that. :)

the suggestion above is a great one (about calling the number and asking) just to give yourself some peace of mind.

i can't speak to the legality of they basing your employment on your disability or your need for a service animal, but all in all i find it wrong.

Whatever you do... I would def. not just show up with the dog. They place you in certain areas, and if they can't have a dog where they had placed you then it will create an issue. I've never seen a cast member with their SD in the park - likely because of some thing they have about animals in the park... but I do not think that mentioning would hurt you at all.

Also - the company that fired you is ridiculous. I hope that you shared words with them about it.

I would mention it. There are certain roles/areas where it would not be possible/safe to have a dog there.

I agree. I would definatly mention it! You may not be able to work in the parks, but I worked at a resort on my CP and one of the employees there had a Service Dog and it was not a problem at all. But if you mention it, it would allow them to place you better and also find out if your roommates may be allergic etc.. but i dont think the dog will hurt your chances after all their are handicapp apartments at vista and chatam.

You need to let your interviewer know that you have a service dog. It is illegal for any employer to ask what your disability is. However I know someone where I work who has a service animal because of an emotional reason and she is not allowed to have it at work, because she does not need it for a physical reason.

Good luck on your interview.

Than your company is breaking the law. Psychiatric Service Dogs are allowed anywhere that any other type of service animal is allowed. Psychiatric disabilities are just as limiting as other disabilities, and accommidations for psychiatric disabilities (including use of a service dog) are allowed. It's possible that your coworkers dog is not a service animal, but an emotional support animal which is totally different.

Oh, and allergies are a non-issue with my dog. She's hypoallergenic and non-shedding. That's how I'm able to work at the day care I work in without worrying about allergy issues.

That is honestly such a difficult question to answer. I think Disney is creative enough to come up with a job that will allow you to bring your service animal. However, I'm not too sure if the management company that owns the apartments would be too thrilled. However, you must mention it.

I agree with others that it's important to let them know about your service dog up front because there are roles that I imagine would not be a good fit, such as food and beverage (sanitation rules, although I've met dogs cleaner than some people I know...) or roles that might be uncomfortable for your dog, such as a loud attraction, etc.

I hope this works out for you,
Nick

You are correct, the animal is an emotional support animal, I always get them confused!!

Best of luck on your interview!! What roles are you applying for?
