Do I have to request the magical extras at the hotel or they send them by mail?

Hi, do I have to ask for the luggage tags and the other magical extras when areiving to the hotel?

Mine came in the mail. I received them last week and I check in on Saturday.

I have actually had both happen in the last year. One didn’t come and I got it at the desk. The other came in the mail. No idea why it happened. Same hotel both trips.
