We are on the dining plan in August and my question is do I have to order 4 meals if there is 4 of us for dinner or can I order 2 and split the meals? That way we can maybe try different places out. Does that make sense? I hope I explained that right.

We've split TS meals at several places. We've never had a problem with it, although I can't guarantee it will work everywhere.

Okay, share CS if you want to, and TS if it is allowed, but some on these boards (Not ME!!) will complain that the dp is way too much food and ask you why you want to do this. If you want to spread out your dp meals, I say go for it. But, do be careful, the credits will add up if you don't use them, and before you know it, there are too many. This happens with CS especially. We use deluxe dp now, and it never is a problem. We get refillable mugs, 3 meals a day to use as we see fit, 2 snacks a day, and we love it!! Just had to plug the delux dp.

Were you on the DP doing this?

You won't be able to shar on at any buffet/all you can eat meals, everyone of at least 3yo will pay at those.

The official word on the DP guide is that no adult can share meals.

However, it never hurts to ask. Only once in 5 days did a server allow my parents to split a meal last year at a sit-down. So, don't count on it but if it happens count yourself lucky.

I had three adults in my party last year and shared at many TS. We used 2 ts and I bought my drink, even my kids shared their food.
This year I think we can eat our own food, but I do plan on sharing at 2 places..... Just ask when you're there.

Where does this official word come from? We shared several TS meals on our last trip (buffets and all-you-can-eat excluded, of course, i.e. Chef Mickey's and Ohana's).

I mean, think about it . . . Disney has nothing to lose if you share a meal when they're giving you the DP for free.

What if you are not on the DDP? Will they allow you to share then?

If you are paying out of pocket, at a la carte restaurants, you will absolutely be able to share. At buffets, you will still pay the per person charge regardless of how much or little each person eats.

Would Coral Reef, Le Cellier, etc (i.e. a la carte) restaurants allow you to share your meal? Did it work for anyone before? I have booked couple more restaurants over my DDP credit limit. It's a good idea to share some meal because I just wanted to try the restaurants out, not necessary really hungry due to reservation time too close together. I hope to hear from those who have done it before. Thanks!

Past DP doesn't necessarily apply to 2008 and its been a couple of years since you were on DP.

Disney has a lot to lose letting adults share TS credits on the DP. Keep in mind it is the sharing of a credit, not the food per se that is the problem. They could care less who in your reservation eats the food. They now have to seat you for two meals and only get "paid" for one of them. That takes a table away from another guest "paying" for the meal; a really bad policy for any restaurant. If you are paying OOP then they are collecting now w/o knowing you'll show up at another TS location. With us DP guests, if we don't use our credits at this sit down you'll use them at some other. Disney knows you aren't saving that credit to waste later. Its a good budget move for diners, but bad for Disney. It doesn't matter if you pay for DP or get it for free the Disney dilemma is the same.

I hadn't really thought of it that way, but I guess your post makes sense. When I consider our TS meals for our upcoming trip, sharing won't really be an issue anyway. We'll only have 3 TS credits and we'll be eating at Ohana's, Boma (1st time!), and Wilderness Lodge. Wilderness Lodge would be the only meal where we could even think about sharing and we wouldn't have another meal to use the leftover credits if we did.

So I guess the consensus is just ask - depending on the server, you may or may not be allowed to share.
