Do I have a chance of standard at WL?

DH wanted to try free dining this year so I got on-line like a good little planner and checked prices at various resorts and he decided we would try the CBR. We have never stayed at a moderate before and thought we would try it. Well at the time one of our faves (the WL) had standard rooms avl but he said no we will save the money and go with the CBR. Well of course now he thinks he wants WL because he is afraid it just won't be the Disney feeling he is used to at a moderate. I am willing to try it but I have to say that i LOVE LOVE LOVE the Wilderness Lodge. WL is where we honeymooned, where we spent our tenth anniversary and where we took the kids last year for their first Disney World trip so I really want to stay there. Anyway, he is only willing to switch if I can secure a Standard room. Even though the woods view is less than a $200 difference apparently the upgrade to standard is where he draws the line. So I called and of course standard is not available for our dates. I have heard of people trying over and over who eventually get lucky but for all you Disney Free Dining Pro's out there do I have a shot???? I mean someone could cancel and I could get lucky, or they may open some new rooms but what are the chances this late really?

Are your dates set in stone? IE: Can you be flexible with your dates? Or not?

We are locked in to the 2nd through the 9th of Sept unfortunately.

Ok.. well.. I think the best you can hope for is likely going to be Woods View. I don't recall seeing many standard view rooms for ANY dates at the WL. Maybe one or two.. but I might have been imagining that.

Personally, I don't think I'd pay extra for "woods view" myself. But then my backyard is forest so.. I'm used to it.

Just checked and you are absolutely right.. almost 200$ difference exactly... between standard view and woods view.

Hmm.. 28$ a night.

Just tell him THE ENTIRE INTERNET thinks you're worth it.

I think if you can get Woods view do it..but if DH insists on switching only if you get a standard view, my suggestion is to keep trying.

I was able to get a standard view for 9/3-9/10 but I had to call myself to get it after our TA couldn't.

If you are lucky enough to get anything at the WL, I would go for it. We love the WL and the only thing available for our dates is concierge. We stayed courtyard last time, but love the resort so much I'd take woods or standard!!

Ive been trying for Standard view @ WL since we decided to upgrade for our dates of 8/30-9/4 and havent gotten it yet and I check multiple times per day. Right now, I am sticking with AKL, but hoping I get lucky!

Have you called to get the price or just checked online? I have woodsview with a package and with the code I had it was cheaper than the standard view. Sometimes they have weird discounts that work in your favor!

Thanks to Canadian Guy DH decided that not only was I worth it to upgrade but he would let me have my first choice of resorts this trip (Beach Club) . WL is my all time fave for atmosphere but I prefer the locale of the YC/BC/BWI. Anyway, I can hardly ever justify the extra cost of staying there over my beloved WL but, if we split the stay between CBR and BC I can do it for about what it would have costed me to get the WL woods view. DS is so excited he can't see straight. When we were at the BC Marina last year for the Illuminations Cruise he fell in love with Stormalong Bay and has begged to stay at the ship hotel ever since. I am very excited about this arrangement because now I will get to experience a moderate and see what the difference is but will still get my Disney fix at a fave resort. Thanks to all who gave theird advice and to CanadianGuy for getting DH on board

Well if you don't mind changing ressies often book at CBR and then check daily for standard at WL. If it becomes available you can change. Trust me this works and CRO has been patient with changes. Went from Courtyard view before free dining 9/1-7 to paying for dining on 9/1 and checking in again on 9/2 with free dining. 2 days later 9/1 became available with fd so switched again to free dining and 2 days later today courtyard view was available with FDP. I am done changing and was able to get what I wanted.
