Do I get free internet if I rent from a member?

I'm renting from a DVC member, who is making the rez with their points and putting it in my name. In the past, the front desk gave me the 10% member discount card that I could use. Does this also mean I will have access to the member-only free internet in the room? Staying in BWV. Thanks.

You may or may not. There have been times that even members have been charged.

The only way to get it removed from your bill is to show the DVC membership card, which you won't have.

So, I would plan on paying for it and hope for the best.

You might. If you get charged for internet access, you would not be able to have the charge removed from your room account.

You can find out if you will have to pay slightly in advance of taking the plunge and accessing the web. However, if it does not show that you will get free internet, you should not ask for it as a renter. I rented in January 2011 at BWV, with the new computer system, and this is how it works now. I was lucky enough to get the free internet, but I ended up mostly using my smart phone for access. I enabled my smart phone hot spot feature for the week to get wireless since I did not bring a wireless router with me. It's ~$1 per day from Sprint.

Anyway, to find out, the day you arrive, go to a souvenir store and charge something to your room (bottle of water, souvenir book, anything). Then after a couple hours go to the Concierge desk and ask for a printout of your room charges. On that page it will say something like "DVC Member Indicator: YES" or "DVC Member Indicator: NO". If it is YES, then you can surf in confidence that the $10 per 24 hours fee(s) will be automatically removed from your bill.

When you go to logon to the internet, you still have to go through the payment steps. Just know that it will be taken care of if that Indicator is YES.

Hope this helps.

When the member called MS to make your rental reservation if they did what we are required to do and let them know it is a rental, then no you won't.

If the member did not do this, then you might be listed as a guest and then yes you would.

It's up to you how you wish to go about it : you can ask the member who booked your stay if he informed MS that you are renter or you can see what happens when you are there but be prepared to pay the daily charge in any event; at check out it can very likely be on your bill even if everything up to that point would suggest otherwise.

Have a great trip :)

If you are a member, you are entitled to member perks and discounts. If you have compensated a member for the reservation made with their points, you are not considered a guest of that member (a guest would be there either with the member or having paid the member no compensation to use the reservation - it would be gifted). If you are not a member and not a guest of the member, you are not entitled to any DVC perks or benefits other than a nice room at a nice price.

I would think if you don't get housekeeping then you should get internet free. JMHO

The room is on points, so they're definitely not getting daily mousekeeping unless they want to pay for it.

Nope, DVC is a timeshare and most timeshares don't get daily housekeeping. That's not a perk, just a way to contain costs. Free internet is a member perk.

On our last trip at BWV in October I had to go down to the front desk and show my member I'd card to have the Internet charge removed from our room the room was in my name as all of our trips have been .....not sure if this something they are doing all the time or on a random basis

i am not sure how it works now.. When we rented points back in October we were able to get the internet for free. we got all the same perks as a memeber would.

Just called member services to ask about this. They said for guests staying in the room using my points, they will get free internet. No mention of rental vs. gift. I didn't see this post earlier or I would have clarified with them.

There is a difference between guests and a non-member who purchased a reservation from a member. A member who sells a reservation is required to notify MS of that sale.
