Do girl scout cookies taste different?

The last ones I ate tasted so bad that I do not buy or eat them anymore. They used to be made by a great bakery (can't remember name) and they were so delicious - also had twice a many in a box. They've gone to cheap bakeries that cut too many corners.

Oh, just remembered the name - Salerno Bakery - they were the best! :thumbsup2 Haven't seen them in years.

I would actually attribute the taste difference to the bakeries attempting to make the cookies more healthy (removing trans fats, cutting sugar, etc) and not them cutting corners.

I don't think they necessarily had any taste difference as a matter of trans fats. They've always contained tropical oils as long as I remember. Perhaps the amount of oils used has been reduced.

I remember the Girl Scout Cookie licensed ice cream from Dreyer's (aka Edy's in some areas to avoid confusion with the Breyer's brand but all owned by Nestlé).

However, I suppose the license wasn't renewed, and now they've licensed it to the biggest competitor Breyer's (Unilever).

We started hearing more complaints about taste after the removal of trans fats but I can't say for sure what it is because they still taste fine to me.

I LOVED the Edy's Thin Mint but not the Bryer's...it's not as minty or something.

I SOOOOOO miss my good girl scout cookies. We used to get way too many. We'd usually buy 40 boxes (and that was why the family put on too much weight.) People used to fight to get our order. But once they changed the tagalongs, it was over. Not only did they change the flavor, but they changed the proportion of peanut butter to chocolate to cookie. Once you do that, then it wasn't a tagalong anymore. We tried them for the next few years, but they just weren't the same. These last two years, we haven't bought any and my waistline and wallet are quite happy.

I just recently had my first Girl Scout cookie since I selling them myself from 1992-1994. The quality has gone down, the taste is different and the price has increased.

I agree! I got a box of peanut butter patties last year because my kids had to have them and I ended up throwing them away because they wouldn't finish them. Now I just buy the Keebler ones at the store. They are better.

PattnFmly, your exactly right ! And I am a Girl Scout leader, we ask the same questions.

ABC is owned by Keebler whom is the parent company is Kimberly Clark or maybe vice versa ?

Keebler has pretty much out right under sold GS by producing thier own version of popular treats, think Grass Hoppers, Coconut Dreams, etc.

There are many reasons why consumers should continue to support Girl Scouts. Girls learn very important life lessons from the cookie program. It supports the program. The proceeds allow girls to branch out and make a personal individual impact in her community through service projects.

When was the last time you saw big coorporations doing service projects ? They may seem like trivial projects, but it teaches many "morals" and good character traits ( doing for others, caring for your community, providing for others, etc) And I'm pretty sure we for the most part can agree those are favorable actions.

Girls scouts has a program called Cookie Share, it has various names in different regions ( Cookies for Soldiers, Cookie for Troops) Customers may donate purchases to be sent to service members. Our area teams up with Blue Star Mothers. Other areas team up with other service organizations.

Personally, the cookie program has taught my girls that life is work. If they want something hard enough / bad enough/ long enough they are going to have to work for it. They can do anything they want to do and they have learned they can do it for themselves. They have become empowered young women. They see that if they put in the time for something that is important to them, that they can make it happen.

Plenty of large corporations here do service projects.

Some GS may sell the cookies themselves, but the majority have Mom and Dad do it at work.

I would never let my DD do that, which is why she didn't sell as many boxes as the other girls. She was stuck going door to door in the neighborhood and asking family.

I do plan on picking up some Coconut Dreams and Grasshoppers at the store today.

We only ever buy the pb patty ones. I buy five boxes each year from my favorite GS. I respect what GS is trying to accomplish, but $4.00 for 15 cookies is not particularly budget conscious. There's four people in my family so everyone gets to pick one box each that is all for them, they don't have to share. One box goes directly into the freezer for a summertime cold treat. The rest of the year I go with the elves! :goodvibes
