I'm a WDW vet about to visit DL for the first time in 12 years. I've read Hydroguy's very informative post for people just like my, but I have one question.

Do the Fastpass machines at DL read barcodes instead of magnetic stripes (like WDW)? We have the Southern California CityPass card that contains a 3day PH pass for Disneyland. It only has a barcode on it - no magnetic stripe. The instructions that came with the card indicate that it is your actual park ticket for all of the theme parks and you just swipe it at the turnstile. Disneyland Ticketing confirmed by email that is the case, it will be our only ticket for the trip.

So I am assuming that it will work for Fastpasses but that must mean that DL is set up differently that WDW. Yes?

Yes. And, unless something has changed, you don't swipe your card at the turnstyle; rather, you hold it out and they scan the barcode on it.
