Do any of you travel with a tripod for your digital camera?

I am considering getting a small, inexpensive tripod to take to WDW so I can get some good shots with my digital camera at night. Does anyone use a tripod? Is it too much of a pain to set up and carry around in the parks (I carry a backpack I could put it in)?

I have a small tabletop tripod and I used it on vacation. They're easy to use and very helpful for clear night pictures.

As Kath said, Elisabeth, I use one and they are great. Here is a link to one I just received as a gift recently. It has extensions to double the length. Very easy to use, very light weight, takes up almost no room when folded up, and so very useful.

I recently bought a tabletop tripod that fits in my camera bag. It stands lik 4" high when extended. I also bought a larger tripod that is 12" closed up and like 36" fully extended. I want to try them both at WDW in Dec.

The problem with the tripod's is finding a place to set them up. One idea that I haven't tried yet but am mulling over is a monopod. It would be easy to use, even along the parade route's etc is much smaller than a tripod, you can even use it as a boom to hold your camera up (with the self timer) It does take a bit more practice than a tripod, but the pro's certainly use them, look at the sidelines at any pro football game. One really cool one I saw was a walking stick that was also a monopod! I doubt they would let it into the parks though... great for hiking etc!

I have a tiny little one that fits in a pocket, I like mono pods too.

I will also use fence rails and light poles to steady myself, i must look like a drunk, they come in handy to steady the camera too.

I use the light poles also, Zurg, along with trees and the ever-present, always plentiful, trashcans.

I use the small portable, table top type. Works great. I use it mostly for night shots so the camera is kept steady (I use it along with a trusty remote control for the digital camera so I don't accidently shake the camera). It also comes in handy when I want to take a picture of me and my wife when nobody is around to do it for us.

Oh, and yes, poles and trashcans are the best places to place the tripod for taking pix.

I've tried carrying them, but they are really way too much trouble. Of course, as I get older I like to travel lighter. Plus, I really don't want to carry a camera bag into WDW now. That way I skip right through the long security lines at the entrance to the parks.
If I ever feel like I just MUST have that night shot, I steady the camera on something like a wall and take the time exposure. Then, I don't have to pack the wall back in my pack to travel further.
