I would like to rent a car for a portion of my trip and use ME for the rest. Can I rent a car at WDW??? Has anyone done this???

The only place on property to rent a car is at the Car Care Center. I believe you can arrange at the front desk of your resort to have a shuttle pick you up and take you there. I understand that the hours of the rental place are very few and it can be hard and inconvient to arrange pickup and drop-off times.

You say you'll be using Magical Express for the rest of the trip. All ME does is take you from and to the airport, nowhere else. There are busses (ferries and monorail for some resorts to some destinations too) that will take you to and from the resorts and the parks, Downtown Disney, and the water parks but those are run Disney Transportation, not ME.

There are rental desks at the Swan and Dolphin at the Boardwalk and at the Hilton in Downtown Disney, as well as at the Car Care Center. None of the Disney Resorts have car rental desks.
You may get more informatiobn if you post this queswtion on the Transportation Board her on the DIS

Hi,

There is a car rental deak at the Dolphin - National & Alamo I believe, and the gal at the rental desk is great to work with.

I rented a car at the Dolphin last Sunday because my car was broken down on the side of I-4. I was freaking out at POR and they told me to call the disney operator on the house phone, ask to be connected to the car rental desk at the Dolphin. I was connected to the Alamo call center and I spent about 15 minutes trying to get a god rate - every time I asked for a better rate she found a new rate, so don't take the first one offered. I then tok a taxi for $10 to the Dolphin and went to the desk. I asked when I got there what they had available and I was told they only had a small SUV for $65 a day. And then I said I am glad I had a reservation for a total of $49 a day.

When I returned the car the next day I heard they say again the only had the SUV for $65 but when I wasled up to return it they said they had the compact available if I wanted to switch cars because my roof was stuck open.

So - call for a reservation in advance or pay higher rates.

Thanks for the great info. I did post on transportation boards but got no responses.

Shorty~ thanks for the info. I have been to WDW tons of times and own DVC I'm well aware of transportation at WDW. I usually rent a car for my entire stay but this time I thought I would save money and only rent a car for a few days of my 12 day trip. And my boys have always wanted to ride the cool Mickey buses (ME). I just don't know how easy it is to rent & drop off not at the airport.

Just wanted to chime in here!
We rented a car in Raleigh and drove to WDW this summer! We used Alamo. To drop it off, we just drove into the driveway at the Dolphin, a valet came over and took all our info, and sent us in to the Alamo desk at the Dolphin. The clerk could not have been more nice, and we were on our way to Epcot after a 1 minute transaction. I can not recommend this more highly. You can also rent or drop off a car at some of the Downtown Disney hotels. I thought we would just drop it off at the Car Care Ctr, but it was so great to be able to use the Disney Transportation right at the Dolphin to go to our next stop. I would use Alamo at the Dolphin if you can. We got a very competitive rate with Alamo too. Good Luck!

Might be cheaper to rent a car from the airport for your entire trip and just use it when you want to.
I've heard ME is slow in getting you to your resort from the airport as you have to stop at numerous resorts. Might be faster with a car, plus you can stop and buy a few groceries for your room

go to www.mousesavers.com and click on the rental car section. She tells you what hotels have car rental desks (DTD hotels, not Disney). She also gives you the different car rental codes that can save you money.

I rented from National (I think) at the Hilton in DTD last year, and you don't need to take a cab there. They sent a courtesy van to pick me up at CBR, he arrived only 10minutes after I called. No line-up like the airport rentals, I had the car and was gone in less than 5 minutes.
It was a good experience all in all.
