Do annual passes give you a discount on Disney hotels?

It seems like I have seen conflicting information on this. We always stay on property, the price points vary anywhere from the All-Stars to the Polynesian, and try to use discount codes from Mousesavers. I will be going to Disney with one of my children several times over the next year and am considering buying annual passes for just the two of us. On our larger family trips, I wonder if I can get a discount on our room if I have an annual pass. I would love a pass that we could use for Disney World and also Disneyland as we travel to the LA area at least once a year, but I don't see them offered and last time I looked they were double the price of the WDW annual pass, which looks like it is $850 right now, even for children. Has anyone seen the benefit of an annual pass for a Disney resort that is better than the prevailing discount code? Thanks in advance!

AP discounts are almost always better than those for the general public by about 5%. However, they are always the last discounts to be offered and are done as a means of filling the rooms that no one else wanted. IOW, don't expect there to be a wide variety of hotels rooms available under the AP discounts and don't buy an AP with the expectation that you will use it to get room discounts. Buy them because you expect to visit the parks often enough that you will save money on admission.

This, the discounts are a moving target so just buy your APs based on if they are less than the ticket price. Make sure you compare apples to apples. If you don't normally buy PHs use the non PH ticket price. If you normally or are planning on buying memory maker add that price to the price of the tickets since it's included in the AP. That's it, don't factor in discounts. Oh just so you know, I've had an AP for about 5 years and have used it at least twice a year and up to 4 times a year and I used the AP discount for a room once, the other times either one wasn't available for the resort I wanted or the type of room I wanted (I don't usually book anything but standard) or I went through Orbitz and stacked their discount on top of the general discount.
