hi all,

we leave tomorrow :cool1: and my dh just called spirit airline to ask about kid's id. I thought I might need to take a copy of their birth certificate. the guy he talked to said we need ORIGINAL birth certificate & social security cards for both kids (ages 6 & 4).:confused3

We should be able to bring these without a problem, but that just doesn't sound right to me. does everyone require this?

thanks!

No - only passengers 18 and over are required to have photo id. You can go to the TSA website and confirm if you like.

The exception would be a child under 2 who is flying on a parents lap without a ticket. A BC would be required to prove the baby is eligible to fly free. Perhaps the person on the phone wasn't listening to the ages of your children and just read off the requirements for a lap child? Although I haven't ever heard of an airline asking for a SS card. They usually want BC, shot record or a passport.

If you feel like taking the BC's there is no harm but it really isn't necessary.

I fly with my dd's many times a year and have never, ever been asked for ID for them. I am considering taking my 14yo to get a state id as she gets older but it hasn't been an issue yet.

My DD15 and I have flown Spirit many, many times and they have never asked for ID for her. Even at airport security, the agent asked her how old she was, but we have never been asked to show ID.
