MIL and FIL are flying down for our September trip from MSP but are arriving a day later then we are. I am trying to convince them that DME is the easiest way to get to their Disney Resort but MIL is worried about the long walk from the plane to the bus. We are renting an electric scooter for her that is going to be delivered to the resort when they arrive.

My question is - what is the easiest way to get MIL from the plane gate to DME? Will a skycap come get her at the gate in a manual wheelchair and take her all the way to the bus or will she have to walk at some point thru the airport?

She is really stressing over this to the point that DH is ready to just rent a car (we hadnt planned on renting one at all the entire trip) and missing our time in the park as a family just to meet his parents at the airport to pick them up and drive them back to the hotel. :(

Any suggestions? Thanks!

It will not reduce her walk if your husband were to pick them up. Almost all of the walking is after security and he couldn't get past that.

She should contact her airline to arrange for transportation. Depending on her needs they may send a skycap with a wheelchair to meet her at her gate or arrange for a ride in one of those large carts. I'm sure she will be transported all the way to Magical Express...it's within the airport. We have not had transport at MCO to ME but others on the disAbility forum may have. But we have used the service and the skycaps take you wherever you need to go within reason....that's the whole idea.

She should contact the airline right away and then I would follow up a day or two before travel unless the airline is doing the followup.

Also, keep in mind that the DME buses are large tour-type buses. They have a flight of 5 stairs (counting the ground as step one and the bus floor as step 5). The steps have a good handrail. I have a picture that I could email you if you want.
Another posibility would be to use a limo service to pick them up.

ITA that the DME buses are not the easiest for anyone with mobility issues. Not only are there those stairs, but they are rather steep, and the aisles seem narrow, too.
Why not call DME and ask if there are any special provisions for someone with those problems?
Good luck and have a stressless vacation!:goodvibes
