DME & Seat Belts

We haven't been to WDW since 2009, but as far as I knew there were no seat belts on the ME. I was reading a trip report, and the pictures from the ME showed seat belts. Is this new? Certain seats only? Certain busses only?

We're going to have our 2 year olds car seat when we go in February, and being able to install it on the bus would be great (but unexpected). Anyone know if car seats are able to be installed on the ME if they do have seat belts?

The website doesn't address the seat belt issue. Are they on all the busses now, and if so does the no car seat rule still apply?

From the WDW help center under airport transportation and check in:

No. Car seats are not permitted in the passenger cabin and must be stowed in the storage compartment underneath the motor coach.

Children can sit on an adult's lap or occupy their own seat.

Some buses have them. But that cannot be relied on, and as you see from that quote they aren't permitted.

Some busses have seat belts. No car seats even if there are seat belts. They really wouldn't fit. Even if the carseat fit facing forward (no way would they fit rear facing), the kid would have no space for their legs. Their legs would be crushed in a crash or emergency stop.

The government just passed a regulation that certain types of busses that travel between cities will be required to have seat belts, and I think the DME busses will fall within those guidelines.

:confused3

Yes, it does. It says NO car seats.

I came to ask here to clarify if no car seats still applied even with seat belts that are now on some of the busses. With all due respect, if Disney's site fully answered my question I wouldn't have posted it here.

Thank you, this is what I was asking. We'll bring a bag to stow ours under the bus.

Not sure what part of this is not clear. Seems pretty straight forward to most of us.

Q.

Are car seats permitted on Disney’s Magical Express motor coaches?

A.

No. Car seats are not permitted in the passenger cabin and must be stowed in the storage compartment underneath the motor coach.

I think the issue the OP was addressing is that the buses with seat belts came along long after that information was posted on the WDW/DME FAQ section. So, it could possibly have changed. Has it? I doubt it. The majority of buses are not equipped with seat belts, so I doubt that Disney/DME would change that info.
I would plan on stowing the car seat beneath the bus. Once you get to WDW, you will be holding your child on buses anyway....no car seats there.

It's not at all unreasonable to think that that the information on the Disney website might be outdated (or just flat-out incorrect.) It often is.

That's our plan, we figured it would be a bonus if we did get to use the seat for some reason. It's more of a convenience thing for us concerning the ME busses, easier all around for everyone if a toddler is in a seat they can't get out of after a long flight, no worries about there not being car seats on the park busses.

Yup, that's exactly why I asked. From experience I know Disney's website is not always the best place to find accurate up to date information ;).

The DME bus we had going to the resort last week did not have seat belts. The bus we had going back to the airport did have seat belts - each seat had the kind that goes across both the lap and chest. Appeared to be a newer style bus.
