Hello, I'm trying to work out the pros and cons of the following for a 15:25 arrival into MCO

1. Collect bags ourselves (more time in airport) but be able to get settled straight away at the hotel or
2. Book bags on DME (less time at aiport) but have to wait for them at the hotel (we might be ready to crash before they arrive ???!!!!)

How long does it take to get through baggage reclaim compared to them being delivered at the hotel?

Thanks

Disney collecting your bags at the airport on your behalf is a service only offered to US residents, due to the fact that you have to clear Customs with all your luggage present.

That said, it's an easy enough process as your luggage is nearly always out before you've cleared Immigration anyhow - 9 times out of 10 we walk through and our stuff is already going around the carousel or very very shortly after as to make no difference. So it's unlikely that it would take you any more time to collect your luggage even if you could use DME for your bags.

After you clear the customs hall there is an option to drop off your luggage again while changing terminals, BUT, unless you are incredibly over-burdened with cases and don't want to drag them around, just head on up the escalator with your bags and a very short distance away will be the terminal monorail. Most people will likely be doing the same thing anyhow because the alternative is to see your cases disappear for the next 30 mins in the airport luggage transfer system (getting to the main terminal takes 5 mins if that!).

Hope that helps :)

If you manage your cases without a trolley I would take them yourselves on the transit and straight to ME.

If you cant you can drop them on the second belt and then you can collect them yourself or ask Disney to but as we dont get tags they will come out on the luggage belt before being collected. It can take upto 4 hours for the bags to arrive and although you don't need to be there for delivery I would be completely unpacked by then!

We have used the DME 3 times now and have always taken our bags with us.

The first time we were allowed to take them up the escalator and onto the monorail but the second we were forced to put them onto the second belt. They stopped us from going past the machines. It took forever to get them back in the main terminal.

Last time as we arrived as an internal flight we got off the plane and collected them at what would be the second belt and off we went.

We like to have our bags with us when we get to the room as we just want to unpack and freshen up. I do always pack a spare change of clothes in the carryon bags just in case we loose a bag.
