Dme luggage question

Hi everyone i feel really dumb asking this question but here it goes
WE are going back to disney in july as after last summers trip im now addicted to going there. On our last trip we used disneys magical express with no probs at all. I even remembered to pack what I needed right away so as to not wait for the luggage. This times gonna be diff, We had planned on bringing our drinks for the first day and sun tan lotion for the waterparks with us on our carry on as typhoon lagoon is the right off the bus park, but alas thats not allowed now. We could send it with the checked baggage but would have to wait for our luggage in order to get the drinks and our suntan lotion So we dont end up with major sunburn. My question is three fold
1) Can i take one of the checked bags and use it for pop and suntan lotion and stuff and just pick it up at the baggage claim on the way to the magical express if i just dont put the yellow disney express luggage tag on that one bag?

2) How does the bag now filled with souveniers get home do we just check it with the rest of the bags when we do the airline check in? does it need that yellow dme tag on it?

Im sorry if this sounds like a dumb question i just want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible since I am now heading the trip for me, my sister, my son , and now first timers my brother and his fiance.Last time we went I went to this great board asked questions and planned and looked like a total disney pro to my sister even though i had never been.All of you make it so easy for first timers and returning newbies to understand things. Without this great site i for one would not have had such a magically informed time LOL. Thanks in advance for your advice.

1. Don't put the yellow tag on any bags you want to personally claim. DME gives you 2 tags each, but you don't have to any if you choose not to. THey have no idea how many bags you are coming with...could be just 1 for all they know.

2. You don't need the DME yellow tags for the return trip. So just take them off your luggage after you've received them.

The DME system just pulls DME-tagged bags away from the luggage stream and sets them on their way for DME delivery. The DME system doesn't interface with the airlines' computer systems, so it's not like they'll be looking for 5 checked bags from the Smith family because the Smith family checked 5 bags at the Allegheny Airlines counter in Pittsburgh. In other words, if you want to get SOME but not all of your checked bags yourself, just don't put the DME tags on any bags you want to claim yourself. The other tagged bags will automatically be delivered to your resort.

For the way home, there needs not be ANY relationship between how many bags were delivered by DME on Day First and how many are checked in with Resort Airline Check-in on Day Last.

So, as you can see [with my tongue planted oh so deeply in my cheek], these were dumb questions after all!

thanks for your help the only thing now is becasue im picking up the one bag from the baggage claim does or will magical express wait for me to get that bag check in with them and board the resort bus? The reason I ask this is that I read somewhere if your flight is delayed or some other thing happens with your flight your suppose to call and let them know about the changes

Nope, you'll be fine. There are a lot of people that don't let DME transfer any of their luggage, so they go to baggage claim and grab all 8 of their bags and then go to the checkin desk!!!
People have been known to stop and eat a meal before heading to DME checkin. It doesn't matter when you show up. You aren't 'assigned' to a specific bus. So, go and grab the bag you want with you, and then head down a level to the DME checkin desk!! Have a terrific trip!

Don't worry. You don't have a reservation on a specific DME bus; just whenever you do check in at the Welcome Center, you'll either be sent directly to a bus or to the queue for the next bus going to your resort. When you do check in, they'll ask how many bags you checked. Just tell them whatever number you attached tags to, don't count the one you already picked up.

Now, some thoughts. First, are you absolutely positively sure you want to pack carbonated beverages in your checked luggage? Please consider this carefully. Bags get tossed around - you may think there's no way a can will 'explode' and make a mess of your (and possibly other passengers') belongings, but...

And if you can all use the same SPF/formula lotion, you might want to consider spending the extra money (40% to 60% more than where there's competition for your dollars) and just buy a bottle when you get to your resort or the water park. Or check minimus.biz (http://www.minimus.biz/SearchResult.aspx?KeyWords=sunscreen) should take you right to the right page) for travel sizes that will fit in your quart-size zipper bag in your carry-on luggage. Keep in mind, there's no limit to how many/much of a given product you place in each bag, as long as they're within the TSA size guidelines.

hmmm good point with the pop i would hate for anything to happen like that i did not realize it becasue last time we went we took the bottles of pop on board board as a carry on. As for the suntan lotion thats a really good tip wow thanks. And thanks to all that respoded again im gonna have a great time being the top dog of the trip LOL and just have tons of fun.
