A CM sent me this from the Cast Portal...
Dear Cast Members:

I wanted to let you know in advance that beginning on October 18, 2004 the Disneyland Resort will implement a price increase for three of our four Annual Passes.

We believe that our Annual Passes are a tremendous value and offer an affordable way for Guests to make multiple visits to experience all that our parks have to offer. Based on the number of Annual Passholders that we have, our Guests obviously understand this value as well. In fact, the Southern California passes pay for themselves after only two visits. The deluxe passes pay for themselves in less than four visits and the Premium passes in less than six.

With more choices than ever, Guests can continue to choose the pass that is right for them – including the increasingly popular Southern California Select pass. Whether the Guest is a parent who likes to take their kids to the park during weekdays or a person who wants to visit the parks every day of the year, there is a pass that will fit their needs perfectly.

As you can imagine, our Annual Passholders are among our most loyal and valued Guests not only because they visit often but they frequently introduce new Guests to our parks. They have the same passion and commitment to our product that we have as Cast Members. Therefore, their expectations are high - which is why we rely on you to continue to provide them with the world-class Guest service for which we are known.

Just got the info...

SoCal Select = $99 (no increase)
SoCal = $149 ($20 increase with fewer blockout dates (than the SoCal Select))
Deluxe = $209 ($30 increase)
Premium = $329 ($50 increase)

Remember, everything at Disney is subject to change........

But the above info should be right.

This is the second time they've increased prices this year. They also increased prices on the passes in March (I was thankfully able to renew on the old price right before they increased it then). I think they might find some people don't renew. The PAP has gone up by over $100 in 9 months time. I think it was $225 in the beginning of this year.

I just called about this myself.

If you buy now, you have to use the AP within 3 months of date of purchase. The activation date is the date of first actual use.

So if you buy 10/17, then you have to use it the first time by 1/17/05.

WOW! Knew this was coming but it is never a nice surprise when it does.

Oh well. AP's are still a good deal for those who will get good use of them. We got about 15 days over 4 visits out of ours.

:earseek:  :earseek:  :earseek:

That's ridiculous, it's only for two parks!! There goes my chances of getting them renewed this year!! I wonder if they'll come back down after the 50th anniversary celebration...? When we bought the Premium in December of 2001 it was only $199. I remember it went up the next time I had renewed it, but it's crazy that in just 3 years it's gone up THAT much! Okay, tantrum over.

<font color=navy>Thanks for the info, Kitster. Wow, that is a heck of a price hike. I agree - the APs have gone up quite a bit over the past year or so

I first got my DL ap in July 02 for 205 now its 329... Yikes!

My current AP is "paid for" in 7 visits a new will take 9. Still not too bad but compared to the 205 which took 5 or my week long July vacation its a bit harder to justify if there are no definate plans in the works..

Actually if you take the price of the one-day hopper ($69) plus the cost of parking for the day ($9), even at the new price ($329), a PAP get's paid for in under 4 and a quarter visits. Even if you take the 1-day, 1-park price and don't figure parking into it, it's still just under 7 visits. Actually, when I first bought mine in April 2001, my 2-park PAP was $299 and it wasn't until a few months later they decided to make all APs 2-park APs and the price went down. So the new price is $30 more, which I guess in that time would be a reasonable amount for it to increase considering the cost of getting in the park for 1-day. I guess they're still a good deal if you go a lot (and I do), but I just don't like spending that big a chunk of money at once.

That's interesting. I went to the DL website, entered my days for travel, and it tried to sell me an AP even though I wouldn't arrive until long past 3 months. DL tix are soooooo much more complicated than WDW. :(

What happens if my current pass does not expire until December - Can I buy now or am I just out of luck?

I heard that this increase was coming - I was actually thinking it would be more than it is - Happy about that!

So for my family it now cost us $1645 for PAP. I think after having AP for almost 15 years, we will SADLY not be getting them any more.:(
I NEVER thought it would come to this. With just two parks that have many of the major attractions not operating, it is just too much. Florida AP's don't even cost that much and you get so much more for your money (I'm refering to the hotel discounts mostly, but lots of other perks).
We just got legoland ($80 for adults) and Sea World AP's($45 for Adults) and we have ones of Knott's($99 for adults and you get a free kids pass with it). Oh it really makes me sad. Well, I'll just have to go win the lottery :)
Thanks for the info.

Disneyland Premium AP - $329
Walt Disney World AP - $379 (theme parks only)

Also you can get a lower level AP's at Disneyland that is not available at WDW.

IMO the AP is still the best value if you are going to be going to Disneyland often.

Christa,

You are right, it is still the best way to go if you vist a lot. When I was single or even just married, it was the best entertainment value around bar none! But now we have kids, mortage, gas, insurance, food, utilites, and $1645 is just too much. The $99 = $496 for us, but there is the $9 a pop parking, very limited discounts and too many blackout dates for when a family can go, ei school and work schedules.
Oh well, I'm sure we'll figure out something. I just think it really is too much. I think the daily price is WAY too much as well. They are so worried about the lack of guest now, labeling this past summer tourist season as the "Summer that never was". I think with all the other choices of entertainment, theme parks and others, that they will continue to get lower guest counts, not higher.
It's just all too sad.

Well the Deluxe AP is still lower then what the premium pass is now. One adult could get the Premium for the parking and discounts. This will give you limited blocked dates and the cost will be about the same as buying all premiums now.

I will not agrue that the increase for a family is a lot. And as a family you have to decide whether or not your family can afford the increase. Just trying to help you see all the options.

As a single parent with two daughters, any increase hits me pretty hard. I was planning on getting AP's for our July 05 trip, because I know we will make it back at least once (Feb 06) and hoping maybe once more before July 06. But depending on the increase of Park Hoppers for '05. It may or may not be cost effetive for us.

Oh Christa,
I really appricate the suggestions and conversation. I hope you didn't think I was coming across mad or anything, :)
It just all comes back to the root of all evil.... money , :hyper:
I'm looking forward to the 50th and I hope they do a good job. My favorite anniversary so far was the 35th, Partygras!!! I loved that parade.
Anyway, thank you for all you suggestions.

$1600 for a family is a lot! I don't think I would renew for that!

You can add parking to any pass you buy - I think it is $40/extra - But I am sure that went up too!

They have had a lot of closures due to refirbishments (sp?) I am sure that will cause several people not to renew - It was kind of a downer to go there with not a lot to do - And don't get me started on the parade......

Hopefully the 50th will bring about new things
