We are starting now to make plans for a trip to Europe next summer with a stay at DLP. I know some of you have stayed there so if you would be so kind to answer a few questions:
We are using points, hoping to book at the Newport resort.

1. Can you use the DVC card for any discounts for food, souveniors, etc.

2. Has anyone heard if the passes which come with the stay will include the new Disney studio?

3. What about food plans? The DLP ad mentions various meal plans. Are they available as an ad on, or do you need to have a hotel package?

4. Is the Newport a good choice? We need two rooms for 3 adults, 2 teens and 1 pre-teen.

5. Anyone take the chunnel express from the UK? How did you get to DLP from the station?

6. Did you like DLP? Things to must see/avoid.

We plan on getting into Paris one day during the stay to sight-see with the kids, and one with just the two of us. Possible?

Any other ad-on info wouldl be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

I'm going to bump this because I can't believe that no one here has used points for DLP. If you would rather answer directly, that's okay too.

I'll try and answer some of your questions. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel there at DLP right in front of the park. It is beautful and well worth the points. There are no "discounts" for food or souveniors using your DVC card. Food is cheap there and wonderful, souveniors are the expensive thing. UMP passes came with our room. We didn't do any "meal plans". We ate either in the hotel or Disney Village, and very well. Both places had wonderful places to eat. A must to do is the Bufflo Bill Wild West dinner Show. It is GREAT! We flew direct from DFW to CDG, however the Eurostar station is litterly next door to DLP. The Newport however is a BIG walk form it. We loved DLP. I want to go back soon if I can and take the train to London. It is very beautful and so much to do. Sm and PoC are by far much better thatn WDW versions. There is so much more its difficult to put it all down.

Hi Guys

Have been to DLP 3 times, not on points and leaving from the UK. Stayed at Newport Bay once and the Disneyland Hotel twice.

The Newport Bay is about a 10 min walk from the gates of the park, the Disneyland is right over the park entrance.

If flying into CDG, the bus to the park are easily found and run about every 3/4 hour. They take about an hour to get to hotels.

As "Snow Shoe " said, don't miss the Buffola Bill Show, Space Mountain is unbelievable and poc is also great.

The Disney Village is lively with plenty of places to eat.

In the past we have found three days to be plenty but this does not include the new park or visits to Paris.

(Nothing like WDW;) )

1) I think I used it in the shops, but not in the restaurants but ask MS they will/should have the answers

2) I haven't heard, but I would imagine that it does

3) Again not sure, I'd check with MS or the hotels direct

4) Nice looking hotel, similar in theme to the Y+B although the rooms in all the hotels will be smaller than you are used to. I stayed at the Sequoia Lodge and Hotel New York. I prefered Sequoia ( both theming and room quality). I'm sure you'll be happy at the Newport Bay

5) IMHO the train is THE ONLY way to go, it is a great service and the station is about 100 yards from the main park, about 5 minutes walk to the hotels. There is a facility to drop your luggage at the station, so you can go straight to the parks, and they will drop your luggage at the hotel for you. You will need to get onto the level where the check in to return is. this is one level higher than the trains arrive and depart.

6) things to do, enjoy the park, some great rides. things to avoid, other peoples cigarette ends !!!! Be warned you will be shocked at the level of smoking in the park, in queues, on rides, in restaurants etc. If you are strong anti smokers, it will bother you so be prepared.

The hotels run sightseeing bus tours from DLP. These are an "all day" tour. I thought pretty good value and they got a reasonable amount of things in. It might be good to do this tour ( with the kids) first and make a list of things that you'd like to do in more detail if you get the chance. Like any major European city you could sightsee for days if you know where to go and what to see. It is possible to take a train into Paris and sight see on your own but I would sugguest the coach for the first trip. That would allow you to visit ( AT YOUR OWN PACE) the art galleries and museums that, IMHO, would not be possible with kids along.

Thank you Vernon, David, and Snow Shoe for the responses. I'm going to try to get through today to member services and book for late June. I only just found out that breakfast is included with your room stay. That plus the passes makes it seem like a great deal for DVC members.
Thanks again,
Joe

A little bit late but....

We stayed at DLP in 1997 at the Cheyenne. We were planning to use points, but we found a much better deal through American Express Travel. We exchanged 150 points to some friends (enough for 5 nights in a 2 bedroom at OKW) for enough money to pay for a three night stay at DLP for two families. Just thought that I would throw this out as an alternative for you. Enjoy your trip. We had a great time and I can't wait to go back someday.

We first did 5 days in London at the Hotel Royal Garden on points and then took the Eurostar from London (Waterloo Station) right into DLP, the train station is right next to the entrance to the Disneyland Hotel and the park, you can pay to have your luggage taken to your hotel if you want there are these window drops for each hotel in the train station, we took our own lugggage since everything was on wheels, we had reservations for DLH, but when we were checking in and they saw we were DVC members, they asked us if we would rather have a suite in Hotel New York, which gave the wife and I our oun bedroom and bathroom, and the kids had the whole living room with their own TV, sleeper sofa and a half bath, I prefered the hotels location better than the others because it is closer to the Disney Village area where all the restaurants are, it is a long walk to the Newport especially to the park, it was very spooky walking from the DLH past the train station area at night, very dark and deserted.

We loved the park and the differences of them, one BIG suggestion, DON'T let them put that digusting pink sauce on your burgers, and the popcorn has sugar on it not salt, big surprise!

We took a tour into Paris, the buses stop at the front of the hotel, it was a good day trip. The tour took us to Notre Dame, a boat ride down the river, and to the Eiffel Tower, we only got up to the first level, but it was still pretty neat. It was very crowded because a school holiday when we were there.

If you need more info, just e-mail me, if you are going to go to London, I have some good tips on discounts.
